    eating your pet open discussion

With all due respect, I'm not talking about being hungry, not just "ready for supper". I'm talking about starving, not just "ready to eat" but literally starving. It's not a good way to go, if you know what I mean. I have personally witnessed places where nothing living was passed up except...

    Why do you homestead?

Being content is the most important factor in a happy life. And living this lifestyle brings contentment to myself and my family. When all the work is done, you can crawl into bed that night knowing that everything is just fine!

    eating your pet open discussion

If you are hungry enough, you will eat your pets. Dogs, cats etc....... You will eat them, and wish you had more. Hopefully that never happens, but if it does, those pets will be nothing more than food. I enjoy my two dogs a great deal. But if it comes to my children going hungry or the...

    Why do you homestead?

My wife and I bought 40 acres 14 years ago. We have slowly been building our "farm" since then. At first, it was just me and my oldest son who had any interest in the farm aspect. My wife is a city gal and wasn't interested at all. Over the years though, she has become more and more...

    eating your pet open discussion

Well, since I did in fact violate a rule, I will apologize to the BYC staff. That said, I would still like an opportunity to post a reply. While it is obviously any person's right to decline to eat meat, I would also point out that is my right to eat meat. I maintain that right whether you...

Ask your chick related questions HERE! (Newbies welcome!)

Hi Susan. Keeping them tame huh? It sounds like you're doing exactly what you need to do. I sit on the ground and feed my flock by hand at least 4-5 times a week. Mealworms. I just started throwing a small handful on the ground until they decided it was something they liked. Now I just...

So, animals do have to die for YOU to live. Just wanted to be clear on that.

I killed them all and I can't stop crying.

My best guess Susan10 is that there was something wrong with the eggs to start with. Unless you made a drastic mistake somewhere along the line. But it sounds like you came very close to nailing it. The humidity levels you posted are good. Was there a temp spike up or down that you know of?

I can always respect another's opinion, but only if that person lives what they preach. To live this^^^ however, a person would have to refuse to drive a car, ride a bike or even walk on the grass (you will kill animals). They would have to accept infestations of insects/rodents inside their...

    Hi everyone!

Welcome to BYC! And thanks for the update. If you don't see anything else that may cause concern, I would suggest your pullet is just doing her thing. When I let my pullets out, some run around, some stroll around and some like to dig a hole and lay around! They are all different.

Applying the emotion "love" to a pet is a bit over the top for me. I "love" my wife. I "love" my children. I don't "love" my German Shorthair Pointer. That's a little creepy to me.
