Thanks! I did do a Google search and saw several links to him in Eugene. Was hoping there was one a bit further north Looks like a very cool place & great info!
Hi klen..where in the PNW are you located? I am east of Tacoma and would be interested in visiting the Backyard Farmer if somewhat close. Of course I would have to take my husband for safety reasons too My six chicks have remained that number for 2 years now, but getting tempted...
Haha! I use scissors and cut my girls a couple pans of grass each day They don't free range due to too many hawk and other predators in our area. They love to see me coming with the pan!
80 cents each seems like a lot for cartons. I have gotten plain ones on sale at our feed store for 0.25 each. I don't sell a lot of eggs, just have 6 hens and mostly give them away to family or friends when I have extra. But I have a few people who give me cartons and I always have plenty...
Yep, my girls are on schedule. They are 19 months now & a couple started molting last month & all but one are now. Have 3 EE's & 3 RIR, went from 5-6 eggs/day to one if I'm lucky now. Poor things are not a pretty sight, but look forward to their new feathers. And a little nice to have a break...
I really like your system briteday! It seems like it would work great. We just have six hens, but some weeks they are super productive & I can't possibly use them all. I have only given them away so far, but I did tell my two closest friends I would have to start charging, mostly because the...
So sorry Mena. I too have enjoyed the stories and photos. A book in Miracle's memory someday is an awesome idea and I hpe you might have the chance to do it someday. As someone said, you have a lot of the hard part done with your posts & photos. Just gathering them together & some fill in...
I'm sorry, I don't have exact dimensions, but mine is about 15 long by 12 wide. I can try to remember to measure in morning. The do duck a little bit I think, but it doesn't seem to bother them.
And honestly, if I had it to do over again, I would not do it in the floor. I have a very small...
My 6 girls started laying the end of August last year and with 3 of us we can't use all the eggs, they sometimes pile up. So I have been generous in giving them to some close friends and family. But when I mentioned to my Mom & sister that I might start charging, since my hubby & I have had...
I had one of those!! It was very cool! And it was only the third day after my hens started laying...fortunately it didn't hurt her enough that she stopped I wasn't home to hear how much noise she made.
I didn't think at the time to use a ruler, though I did get a pic if it in the carton & when...

I think the picture you saw is the one where the little guinea is behind Miracle. Its wing is spread out and it just looks like Miracle's tail. Is this the picture you are talking about?

yup thats the one i was...
Just wanted to say my thanks for sharing too I know nothing of guineas and new to chickens, but a very cool bird you have there. The feet are huge! Love the beard and look like some nice feathering starting on the back/sides. Look forward to future pics!
I have one of my six that hasn't laid for over a week. It's good to see others are experiencing this too, not just me. And mine was my EE who's the only colored layer, a nice olive green w/brown speckles They were just born in April so seems early to molt, hopefully just the weather. She...
YAY!! Mine all caught on fairly quickly, but I still have one that lays randomly. Like wherever she is standing, it just drops out. By the food, by the water, in the middle of run, in the corner...
Mine won't eat the raw carrots, but love the greens. Bananas get the turned up nose, but somehow they disappear when I leave.
They all went crazy over fresh corn on the cob, too bad it's out of season now. I should have frozen some for them!
