Coughing 4 Week Old, "Crackly" breathing

A big reason that I have chickens at ALL is to get away from having antibiotics in my eggs or meat, but they are also my pets. I know that throwing antibiotics at something is very seldom a solution but, at the same time, they CAN solve some issues and I am a MAJOR softy when it comes to my...

Chick with bad foot/leg & respiratory issues??

I had a chick last year that had some major problems walking, but the legs looked fine...it almost seemed as if it were a nervous system issue. I had a lot of feedback here, and ended up putting her and one other chick together and giving them vitamins & electrolytes and yogurt since there was...

Coughing 4 Week Old, "Crackly" breathing

Is there anything I can look for that would give me any more information to go on? I have her separated from the others...I assume that I need to continue to do so? Do I just wait and see what happens??

Coughing 4 Week Old, "Crackly" breathing

I've posted separately about this Welsummer's leg issues (https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=351237), but I'm worried about dealing with the respiratory issue as soon as possible. Can anyone help? She coughs and has a wheezy/rattling/crackly sound. She does not act...

Just-born pigeons on my doorstep - HELP!

I always used cat food soaked in water and feed with a toothpick with birds with good success. Good luck!

Chick with bad foot/leg & respiratory issues??

I looked up the slipped tendon and it seems like she has some symptoms, but not others. I don't see anything that sounds like the crooked toe along with it. OR the "crackly" sound (great description!) and cough. I want to do something for the respiratory issue right away, but I need help as...

    Slipped Tendon?? Femur??

This is a 4 week old Welsummer chick. I noticed she had a crooked toe and this odd looking leg just about three days ago. One other out of the group has the crooked toe, but no other issues. This one limps and the leg cocks out to the side. As you can see from the pics, the bad joint looks...

Chick with bad foot/leg & respiratory issues??

Two days ago I was able to identify that one of my 4 1/2 week old chicks had a foot/leg issue. Middle toe looks broken-turns sideways, and leg cocks out to side & looks deformed. Chick limps when walking and lays down more than others. I was cleaning tanks and splitting the group between them...

New Chick Failing-UPDATE-Didn't make it. :(

I have three EE/Barred Rock crosses that were hatched by another broody hen, and that I am now raising with some other chicks that I ordered to arrive at the same time. The mixes hatched on Sunday, and all was going well until this morning (Thursday). One is obviously not doing well...lying...

Is Gamebird Food Ok to Feed?

Great! I'll run out and give it to them. Didn't want to do it without a confirmation that it was ok! Thanks.

Is Gamebird Food Ok to Feed?

My husband came home from the feed store with Gamebird Food. Is this ok to give my 23-28 week old chickens and two turkeys?? Thanks.

    First Egg!

Got our first egg today from our 24 week old mixed breeds (NOT from the Chihuahua, as the picture might suggest)! I think that it was from one of the Buff Orpingtons. We weren't sure if we'd see any this year or have have to wait until spring. After a few million more, we might actually make...

    What Breed/Age is this hen?

I'm new to chickens, but she is definitely smaller than my other 18-22 week old assorted breeds. So maybe she is a Bantam?? I hadn't even thought of that!

    What Breed/Age is this hen?

We managed to catch this chicken (hen, I assume) that has been living in the woods around one of our rental cabins. She showed up there and started hanging out on the porch in July. Can you tell me what breed she is, and perhaps a guess at her age? Thanks!

What type of roosts do turkeys prefer?

    Ha! Thanks so much, everyone!

What type of roosts do turkeys prefer?

Is a 2 x 4 roost with flat side up like I would do for chickens best? One has taken to roosting on a small secondary coop in the enclosed run over night, but he still looks like he'd prefer to be higher. The other one still goes into the coop at night, and usually chooses a wider shelf to...

    Combining Flocks & Roos

The roosters are just fine through the fence right now...no fighting whatsoever. The two younger ones don't act rooster-ish at all yet. The older one crows and looks like he's showing some interest in mating, but is not overly aggressive. He just seems like he's getting bigger every day, and...

    Combining Flocks & Roos

This weekend I plan on putting my 11 week old chickens in with my 16 week old batch. They have been living side by side for about 5 weeks. My worry is the roosters. I ended up with an EE roo in the older batch and a Barred Rock & an Australorp roo in the younger batch. Is it safe to...

How do I Butcher My Geese?

I really DON'T want these geese dead. I wish we could all live happily ever after. I raised them from little fluffy chicks, and they coo at me and follow me everywhere.... But then they bite me and it hurts like you can't believe. And they bite my dwarf goats, and I can't imagine how it...

How do I Butcher My Geese?

Good question.... I didn't really know where to turn, but don't really want to do it myself if there is another option. II'll have to look into that. I don't think that it is fair to try to re-home them...for them or for future owners.
