They are gorgeous!! See, mine hardly has wattles and isn't red at all yet for being 6.5 weeks old. I was told it's a roo because the tail is sticking straight up...I am second guessing everything! When do saddle feathers come in? I have read they are pointy instead of rounded in a pullet...

    Lavender Orpington Thread

Update...oldest lav is now almost 6 weeks old. Still not sure what to think, gender-wise. The place from which i got her/him will take back roos and replace them so I kinda want to know so I can get another on it's way if need be. Secondly...the two younger lavs are now 3.5 weeks old. One is...

    Lavender Orpington Thread

I have two questions. I have a Lav Orp hatched around March 15, and two hatched around March 29th. The first has a questionable roo comb already to me.... Secondly, the two I got Mar 29 were the same size when I got them. One is feathering out faster than the other and seems a tad bigger. Ive...

How to Break a Broody Hen

My Buff Orp went broody and I got her broke after a week (we have a smaller coop I use to introduce pullets) but she isn't laying and has thrown off everyone else's laying habits...any way to fix this?? Of 7 hens, I got at least 5 eggs a day. Now I'm doing good to get 3 or 4....

    Lavender Orpington Thread

I'm trying to wrap my head around the genetics...lol I'm a horse/dog professional so I'm trying to pick up on chickens and there are soooo many breeds out there it's hard to know where to start. Where does a lavender splash come into play? My pullet is mostly white with some darker feathers and...

    Lavender orpington genetics question?

So...I bought a chick I ordered through a feed store. Supposed to be lavender. The older she gets the more I suspect she is splash?! Is there an out-cross that gives the splash orp? This is my first experience with them. Thanks!!

    Feather loss

I meant winter. Lol my 2yo twins distracted me. They were pretty raggedy this fall. They are my first flock and I'm still learning. :)

    Feather loss

Neck molt?! I didn't even know they did that. They all fully molted this fall/spring. They're on a 20% layer pellet, grit and eggshell.
