i find that the stuff i might have amended the garden with before i now use to feed animals with. then, they do their own version of composting.
have chickens changed the way you compost?
i was watching mine the other day and i was thinking i bet they walk a mile every day at least. they go up and around to talk to this animal and that then circle back to peck in some hay then go to find some sun then back around to nap by a tree then they see someone whose found something...
i used an icecream scooper the other day to scoop and sling some doughey goodness to them. worked better than larger or smaller spoons and less sticky than hands. maybe soda jerks really know something.
what weird or everyday tools have you found useful in ways other than which they were...
when i got back into town today we seemed to have a p theme with food. pumpernickel, peanut butter, pickling spice, and pasta. okay, there was beef too and no p in that. i lied.
i am fooling with making a paintbrush from some of my billygoats wool. i've made them before from yucca leaves. also maybe doll hair. or stuffing?
the texture is fab.
anyone else have any wild or not so wild ideas to throw in?
anyone else make crafts from various animals?
okay. we all know we're supposed to have clean water. so nobody start thinking i'm say that's not necessary.
but, i do toss my old water in mudholes, small or large, i've made around the yard for them to dig in. or, just dump into a puddle on the ground. they love the old water better...
hi
i've been studying some anatomy pictures of various animals so that when i prepare some more animals later this year i will have some more familiarity with it.
what kinds of animals have you killed?
how have you done it?
THANKS!
hey new mexicans? anymore of us around? dying for somone to make a day trip to and drink a hot cup of coffee with and talk about ridiculous things like goats or chickens or such. all in fun. interested???????????????????/
yeah!!!!!! one of the people i work for was cleaning out her fridge and pantry. there were lots of grains and old veggies and such. she said, here will your animals eat these? yeah. i turned down the moldy bread, ick, but the rest i know they will love. even peanuts in the shell and such. yeah...
well, it's that time. mortgage paid, medical paid for, and still i know these little chickies will look at me tomorrow cause how come it'll be a couple days til i get to the store.
so, i mixed up a lovely concoction of:
whole wheat flour, beans, dry pasta that got spilt, oil for fattening them...
does anyone keep a brushpile for the chickens to hide in? i made one that was originally for the goats to nibble on. after a while i noticed chicken poop inside it and realized that they were using it even though i never saw them. there are some that roost in there and they all hang out in there...
my chickens have always been standoffish which has been fine to me, actually. but now that it is cold, suddenly it's like HEY there's the lady who brings food. lol. you're our BEST friend.
it makes me feel like they really do get enough around here in the other seasons with some supplementary...
okay. i am going crazy.
i just saw a picture of a cuckoo marans. realllllllllllllllllllly. ai. to me, looks really similar to barred rock and the dom as has been discussed. so is a cuckoo marans related or totally seperate to one of them?
i feel like i'm picking out paint colors and can't...
that's pretty much my question. one of my goats mated last month and wanted to do it again this month. she did and then did the squat thing afterwards, the all is good signal, seems to be.
if it takes and she gets pregnant will she still want to mate?
i have three chickens who have never flown so i just assumed mabye they couldn't. their breed, their weight, whatever.
but, amazingly, i looked out tonight at sunset after the two flying chickens had gone to where they always go to sleep in the tree. bossy chicken was trying to follow them...
hey. all of my winter housing i made for various hairy brats has stayed up fine. the first few days were iffy and i had to make modifications. i quickly came to know why there is an f in modification.
but everything seems cool now. yeah.
except, for uh, billygoat has TODAY learned to open...
all chickens scratch for food. but have you noticed any difference between different kind of scratches? my rooster used to do this, and now my dominant female does......sort of an x scratch that is not for food, but seems more symbolic somehow. it's done on bare dirt. i also wondered if it was...
