Just found this in the run. Can anyone identify what this is. They are moving, so I'm sure it's some kind of worms. I also need to know what is the best treatment for this.
Hey all. Haven't been around much, my chickens are awesome, no problems there. Found a young dove this morning and picked it up so my dogs wouldn't get her. She appears to have a hurt (broken?) wing. Wondering what the experts think about this? Do I try to help her or humanly put her down? Also...
Hello everyone and thank you for taking the time to read this and offer advice.
I have a Cuckoo Marans pullet that I noticed was looking pretty bare on her backside, so I took a closer look. She is filled with fluid. Pretty sure that it's water belly. I did not take any pictures, but if needed...
It's 9 degrees outside. Not the first time this winter. But I noticed 3 of my chickens laying down to eat. I am really hoping that this is just to keep their legs and feet warm. Am I right? I looked at their legs but don't really know what to look for if it's frostbite??
Thanks for any advice.
He says that because we are using it on the outside of the coop, the chickens will be okay...But it's under the coop. Can someone confirm that he is right? The bulb that we use for their water keeps burning out within days of putting it in. He is making me a no waste feeder today and I believe...
Noticed that one of my pullets has what appears to be frostbite on her comb. She has a huge comb for only being 27 weeks old. We dropped below 0 degrees this past week. I had been putting Vaseline on her for the really cold nights. Not sure if she will lose these points or not. This is frostbite...
This morning when I went to let my ladies out of the coop and clean up, I found two eggs under the roosts. One being white(has to be one of my two Blue Andalusians) was a first egg. So it's understandable that it came weird. I'm sure she'll get the hang of it soon. But the other is a soft shell...
20 week old has full squishy crop and when I push on it she has liquid that comes up. Also seen her have diarrhea. She's not doing much, just standing around. What can I do for her? This just started today. I have seen her drinking a lot of water.
I've started to notice visible grass in my chickens poop. A lot sometimes. They have grit available but don't use it. Their run is sand and they free range for a few hours a day. I figured they were getting grit from the sand and free ranging. Is the visible grass nomal or a sign of concern? (I...
Howdy everyone! This was our first year with our chickens. We had regular grass in our backyard and after letting the ladies free range it, I'm not too sure if it will come back in the spring. Today I got the idea to replace it with something more nutritious for them. Found this online. My...
Hello everyone. I go out to the coop every morning at 6 and it's still dark out. I let everyone out and clean it, break ice and feed a warm breakfast. Sometimes I'll have a pullet down off the roost waiting for me and an egg in the nest box. Not always the same pullet either. I always thought...
This is Daisy. She is almost 24 weeks old. She started laying at 20 weeks 6 days old. We get an egg every day for 10 days straight and then she'll take a day or 2 off. Her earlobes were bright red, but I have been noticing the last week they look like they are turning white from the middle...
On this cold snowy day (at least for me), I'd like to hear stories of how smart your chickens are. I always hear about how stupid chickens are, but in my experience, they are actually quite crafty! Please share the fun times!
I think this is a Cuckoo Marans 12 week old pullet. She has always looked a bit different then her hatch mates.. She is my only Cuckoo Marans chick. My question is does she have a tuff, muff, or beard? Her head (or maybe neck) looks more puffed then the others. Not a concern, just trying to...
My 20 week 6 day old GLW laid her first egg today! I'm so proud of her! It's pretty small but prefect! They will get bigger right? I was with her the whole time and no egg song :( Maybe I should consider myself lucky lol
She's almost 11 weeks old but I've always noticed her doing this behavior. Maybe it just looks like it's worse because her feathers are longer now. The pictures don't show very good and sometimes she hangs them down a lot further. I was wondering if this is normal and also maybe because she just...
