I can't seem to peel my hard boiled eggs - page 8 Solution!

Took 4 eggs from the coop, washed the poo off them, got a pan of water boiling, put the eggs in, set the timer for 15 minutes, kept 'em boiling real good. When the timer went off, I drained them and filled the pan with copious amounts of ice and water. After 5 minutes I tried to peel them...

    Waterer question

I presume your waterer doesn't have a factory installed bail for hanging? If not I would make one so you could suspend it from a piece of jack chain. Hang it from a hook and you can adjust it up or down by moving the links. No more roosting on it or knocking it over.

medicated feed - When to Stop

My source tells me to feed the medicated stuff for 10 weeks, then off for a week and back on for 2 weeks. After that you can feed regular stuff.

    Michigan

The wifes uncle managed several commercial egg production facilities from 500,000 to 1,000,000 birds so I am trusting his every word and he says "the big boys" feed ampro until 10 weeks, then off for a week then back on for 2 weeks before finally ending up on unmedicated feed. I haven't been...

    poultry nipples advice

The threads on the nipples are 1/8" NPT. You need an "S" drill for the hole if you want to tap it, and you'll need an 1/8" NPT pipe tap. I guess you could just force it in but you'll likely split the pipe if you are using schedule 40 pressure pipe. I drilled and tapped my SCH 40 pipe and...

    Is it choking or what?

I did a search for choke, choked, choking and mostly got stuff like "My DH could have choked me when I came home with more chicks" etc. Anyway, my ISA B's are just over a week old and seem to be doing fine but tonight as I was watching them, one would open her mouth wide like a yawn then shake...

    Ventilation Choice

1 square foot per chicken? I'd have to cut the entire roof off mine and still wouldn't have enough!!!!!!!!! 3 square feet at chicken level? There go the walls!!! Shoot, just let the birds live on your deck.

    Too Big for the Tub

Mine are a week old in a rather large tote. I plan on moving them to a plastic pond liner that is about 5' x 7' when they are a little older. Those suckers are starting to fly!

    Coop dilemma, sort of

I am probably the only one on this forum to ever have this happen but I'm 98% finished with my coop and found a design that has numerous benefits over the current one and stays within the same footprint. What to do, what to do? As funding is always an obstacle, I can't simply start a new one...

    coop ideas for michigan?

Hey True Grit, tell me more about the upside down inside out windows. Is that to get the air movement higher above the floor level thus avoiding drafts? I assume the inside out reason is so they can be adjusted without going inside the coop.

    Sloppy drinkers?

I am planning on installing a nipple waterer inside my coop. Unless my nipples leak;) is there much chance of having wet bedding under the assembly? Do the birds pretty much get all the water that comes out or is it like my kids drinking out of the garden hose...water everywhere?

What is up with the "can't stop bringing them home from TSC" syndrome? I read thread after thread of folks getting sucked into farm stores and hatcheries only to bring home 6 more cute fuzzy chicks. Do you remember the commercial some time ago (I think it was Capital One) with David Spade...
