Lost 3 chickens in 10 days.

I thought that the first chicken was egg bound. We tried to help her with the warm bath and calcium. We noticed two more chickens were lethargic after the first one died. Now they died. What could it be? What should we do? I have 4 left. They are three yrs old.

Anyway another chicken is acting the same way now I’m thinking it may be...

    Black Australorp - Rooster?

have 2 Black Australorps pullets in my new flock. They are about 22 weeks old. They haven't started laying yet. I'm starting to think one is a rooster. My reason is mostly by the tail appearance, but also does put itself between me and other chickens (protection??) and also seems to stand...

    Is this a Rooster?

So May 1 I bought 5 pullets. They are approx 15 weeks now. I'm thinking this Light Brahma is a rooster. She has been very bossy. She is the largest chicken...even larger than the Jersey Giant. Last week I noticed her grabbing the back of the neck of the other hens. Today my husband...

    Easter Egger Roo?

Hello, These are my 12 week/3 mos. old EE's. They look almost identical except one's tail stands up and sometimes fans open like a turkey. I have never seen the other one do either of these two things. Is the one in question a rooster? Thanks for any input. I really tried to take a...

    Is this EE pullet?

So this chicken is one of 4 that I purchased on March 1...so approx 11 weeks ago. They were brand new chicks. I purchased them as Easter Eggers. The others are the basic brown/black EE pullets. I am unsure if this is an EE. It looks like one of the others body shape, head, tiny comb etc...

Hello, I've added more chickens to my flock and they will be living together soon....hopefully. I have a very nice coop to house 4-5 chickens. I need another one or want to add one. What are your thoughts of adding another small coop (which I have partly made already with nice dog house) and...

Is this an Americauna? Very curious.

Sorry no pics. I bought what was to be 5 Americaunas pullets. They are 9-10 weeks old now. One is an Americauna rooster which I gave back to the lady who I ordered with last week. She has a large farm and took him. My last 4 all look fairly the same. Same colored legs, brown and black...

    Too soon??

There is another thread with a similar situation, but my chicks are older and I'm in MI. My chicks are 6 weeks old. I want to move them to the coop outdoors. Lowest temps coming this week in the middle of the night is upper 30's. I have a wide 75 watt bulb with a reflector lamp in the...

    too soon?

I have 5 week old easter eggers. I'd like to know if it is too soon to let them out on the grass in a little gated pen. It is going to be full sun - upper 40's low to mid 50's today. They've been in my house and I've not been using the heat lamp lately. Is it ok to take them outside?

    Advice please....

I would like suggestions...I'm going to order 6 chicks. I've had experience with feather picking. Seems the Black sexlinks are the ones who war the problem. Since giving them away to a larger farm, we no longer have the problems. Can you suggest good layers, mild mannered chickens? Thanks!

    Give me your advice

Please.... We have 5 chickens from last year (our first chickens). We built a beautiful coop 4 x 4 x 4' high with attached run which is 5 x 4'. I want to get 2 or 3 more babies. I know that the chicks would have to be grown before introducing, but I'm concerned about the fall and winter...

Any suggestions on my little watering issue?

I've decided to water my chickens in their run over the winter. They are tipping the hanging ONE GALLON WATERERS and making the dirt floor a muddy mess. Any ideas or tips of something that fits perfectly at the right height to put under the waterers? They are the plastic, round, red bottomed...

    Advice please

Hello all! I've decided to put heat in my chicken coop. I know that the red light will keep them awake (and peck eachothers feathers) so I'm going to get one of those ceramic heat lamps. It screws into a socket but emits heat only, no light. Keep in mind the lamp will be secure with 3...

    Having a problem again...please help!

Hello, My one leghorn is feather picking all of the chickens again. They all have missing feathers, sores and bleeding on them at the tail feather. The only one who doesn't have a bare spot there is the one who is doing the pecking. I returned the BlueKote after reading about it last time...
