I think she's a leghorn. Ever since I got her she makes this sound. She does this during the daytime. She is free range. We also give her cracked corn/ bread/ oats/ cat food. Each sound is long and loud(around 1-3 seconds each) sound something like...

    My rooster stopped crowing?

Has this happened to anyone's roosters? I also noticed that his comb is smaller and less red. He is a free-range rooster- he stopped eating cracked corn and other grains, but he will eat only bread and crackers (wet) very whole-heartedly. I've also noticed that he doesn't move around as much as...

Winter is almost here, should I be concerned about my flock?

I live in Miami, Florida. It'll be the first winter that I have chickens. They are 3 free-range chickens, and thus far they've been sleeping up in a tree. Do you think they'll be OK in the Miami winter? Should I be giving them something special to eat? One is a gamebird bantam rooster, the hen...

My bantam gamebird rooster's top comb appears to have changed color

It was larger and redder, now it looks shriveled and browner? Is there something wrong with him???? I'm in Miami, Florida, and he is a free-range rooster. Ever since the cold front came into Florida, I think he's been moving around less....I haven't seen a change in his appetite....What do you...

My hen's feathers are falling out around her head?

What problem do you think she has? It's not dramatic, but it's obvious that she is missing feathers around her head, and upper neck......I have 2 other chickens with her in their flock, and they don't have this. What do you think?

What do you feed your free-range chickens?

My 3 chickens are free on on the front and backyard. I do give them scratch atleast once a day, but it seems like they're always begging me for more food. What should I do? Do you recommend I keep a feeder somewhere for them? Free-range chickens don't find enough food?

Do you think chickens are more entertaining than most pets?

Why or Why not? Why do you think chickens are so entertaining? (I've had dogs, cats, hamsters, a lovebird and fish. But I think my chickens are the most entertaining, I'm not sure exactly why...)

If a hen sits on eggs that weren't fertilized, would she stay broody

even if they never hatch? I'm interested in knowing if a hen would actually sit on the eggs forever because they don't hatch? Or do they know better after a certain amount of time, and come out of the broodiness? This is not my situation, I'm new at owning chickens, and just wondering.

Free Bantam Rooster Old English Gamebird- Florida (pics)

I'm giving away this little guy, he needs a new loving home. He's in great health, is very cute character. I know this will sound strange, but he is used to sleeping high up in a *very* dense tree. I made him a ladder that he's been using to get up in the tree. I've had him for several months...

Help with interpreting chicken behavior please.......

Every now and then when I feed my chickens (flock of 3) my rooster will spread out one wing down his side, and he'll use his other side to block the other chicken's path to the food. He'll sometimes do this while quickly flapping his stretched out wing at his side and circle the other chicken...
