Thanks to all of you for your help and encouragement! The same broody just hatched another chick, and pecked at it and shoved untill it fell from the nest still wet! I put it in with the other chicks and am hoping for the best. BAD Broody!!!
I'm sorry you lost one of your babies, computer...
I got them from Tractor Supply, a farm and feed store chain. I was told one was a silkie, and a number have feathers on their feet and tufts on their heads. My favorite are the ones that look like little chipmunks, but I can't pin down the breed. I think they came from McMurray Hatchery origianally.
Can anyone tell me what some of these chicks are? When one of my broodies shoved her new baby out into the cold, I got it some friends and am curious what they are.

My first broody hatched 4 chicks 5 weeks ago, and we have had a lot of bad, cold weather(below freezing) and she did great! She seemed to know how long they could be out from under her, and even now at 5 weeks they get up under her wings when it gets cold. It was great fun to watch them...
I guess that's true about the incubator. I only hatched 2 out of 14 in them this year. Couldn't get everything right I guess. I just get mad at having to watch her so closely. Boy can she set, though! I've carried and tipped her nest box trying to rearrange things and she won't budge!
My broody finally hatched an egg! I put 2 chicks from the incubator with her, but she kicked them out on day two. I hoped she would do better with her own, but she wouldn't let it under her and kept shoving it out of the nest! The poor thing was freezing and screaming for help, so I put it in a...
That is awfull about your broody! I'm so sorry. Out of thirteen hens, I only got three good broodies.
On another note, I put my two chicks I hatched in the incubator under a broody last night, and they were under her and peeping this morning:weee
I was so afraid she would kick them out or they...
Here is a link to my incubator chick that hatched this morning. I know this is a broody forum, but her eggs just aren't hatching! I guess she's going to get these.

That's great on your hatch!
I thought mine were due today, but no sign yet. My other broody always had hers hatch durring the night, so maybe by morning!
Your pics are so cute! My boy's loved seeing you showing the kids. I don't let my kids in the coop since they are pretty small and the roo's keep attacking them.
I candled in the middle of the night, and my chicks are still alive!
Today or tommorow is hatch day:jumpy:fl:fl:fl
I had a very bad hatch letting my broody stay in with the other hens. It was real hard to keep all the extra eggs out, and she ended up letting some well-developing chicks get pushed out. I lost 4 almost fully formed 'cause of that. I hope it works better for you, and I did still end up with 4...
I know this post could go in some of the information areas of the forum, but with some of the recent questions, I thought it might help some others like me that don't have time to read everything. These are two links to Mother Earth News. The first is all articles on chickens, the second is coop...
To those worried about vaccination: Mother Earth News has a lot of great online articles on the subject. You don't have to use shots; there are some you can add to feed and water. Personaly, I don't think a properly run coop with a yard will cause sickness in your birds. And diotomaceaus...
Everyone's eggs and chicks sound great! I have 4 thriving chicks under my broody, despite my mistakes, and 6 out of 10 eggs that appear fertil in an incubator! I'm due Mid- March and hope to stick em under a momma to raise. First try at that, so we shall see!
Tip for anyone who cares; here in...
