I never saw a turkey I thought was pretty until I saw the royal palms.
I could never show. I don't have the patience and drive, however with my silkies I am trying to improve, though the stock I have is pretty darn good.
You didn't say anything out of line. Lol You just stated the difference between the meat production type Cornish and what you are hatching.
I breed silkies and feel the same about comparisons of the average hatchery stock non bearded and breeder stock bearded...lol
The Cornish hens in the store...
Lots of people eat Cornish hens. Our store sells them. They are little, but perfect for a single person or a couple. Of course production ones aren't bred to SOP LOL
I would never spend big bucks on eggs from anywhere as a first time hatcher or using an unknown bator for the first time. Get...
The incubation period for chicken eggs is 21 days, meaning they need 21 days of heat at proper temps. The reason the day set is not counted is because the don't have one day of incubation until they've been incubated 24 hours. After 24 hours they are day 1. It's like a baby being born. A baby is...
Yes. The day you set is the expected day of hatch. Count starts 24 hours after set. Monday would be lockdown for an expected Thursday hatch.
It's not uncommon to see jiggling/rocking around day 17 as the chick positions itself, (head under right wing beak up) for hatch. Usually after the...
I had 18 shipped. No detached air cells. I think I had three or four that were slightly wobbly, but I set upright and didn't turn the first 24 hours, then tilted the next 48 hours and by day 4 those that were slightly wobbly firmed right back up. Only one did not show any signs of development. 3...
It can take 24 hours to progress from internal to external pip and it can take another 24 hours between external pip and zip. It can take less, time, but those are normal perimeters.
If you are talking to me, yes. My entire flock, both standard and silkies I hatched out. Originally I never had an interest in chickens. My sister bored me to death talking about chickens...lol I homeschool my son and we were doing an oviparous animal unit for science. Dear sis said take my...
Many people that sell eggs also have Roos. I sell eggs and mine are fertile. But I wash my eating eggs I sell and refrigerate them, so I let people know that if they want unwashed eggs stored properly for hatching let me know. And I would charge more for my pure breds.
I save mine to my hatching folder on google chrome...lol Along with my humidity article, my hatching guide blog, info on hatching in high altitudes and a million more...lol
We're hopefully moving, so it'll be interesting to see how these guys adapt. I have 25 in my standard coop, 9 grown silkies in my silkie coop and 10 silkies varying in age in my brooder. Getting them transported is going to be a pain.
