I've noticed a lot of the new people like the one bucket better then the two bucket system. It is a lot easier to get the consistency we want, without draining. It takes me less then five minutes to feed the chickens, and most of that five minutes is walking from the house to the barn and back...

Where do I get fish meal? I've not had an issue with egg laying, all my girls are new layers and I'm getting 5-9 a day from 9. I would like to give them some extra protein though, just to have it in there.

Question for all of you with ducks...my FF is all flock and scratch, is that ok for ducks? I'm really considering Runners, but need to keep everything simple, so I would prefer not to have two different kinds of FF.

I was at Lowes a few months ago and picked up an outdoor floor mat, it has a rubber back. This way I know my floors won't have any moisture sitting on them. Works well. It's just 2x3 I think, but they have bigger ones. Mine has a flower design on the visible side.

I noticed that around the fifth day my FF gets really soupy, and gross. But, after more reading I figured out I need to feed it more dry on about the third day, then it thickens back up.

For your FF all you need to do is "feed" it a little more dry feed. Just keep going with what's in the bucket. If there's no mold you should be fine.

I did the same thing. First batch was small and just enough to feed them all once. The next day I was at walmart looking for bigger buckets. It's so easy you won't find a reason not to do it. Good luck!
