I actually really like your analogy! :thumbsup For me I know that I don’t like chickens in shades of red or orange. I’ve seen a Red Araucana and while the Araucana is one of my favorite breeds I just didn’t like the red on the hen I saw. I had a hen raise a pair of Rhode Island Reds two summers...
I’ve never been a fan of commercial strain Red Sex Links they are supposedly a cross between Rhode Island Reds and single combed Rhode Island Whites. They are human friendly birds, but they are done right nasty to other chickens. Not to mention they are spent at 4 years of age if they don’t die...
The egg above the brown egg to the right of the green egg is what I call tinted. Not a white egg, but not a brown or cream colored egg. The egg to the left of the brown egg is white.
Thank you all for contributing to the thread! Makes for some great conversation! There is another thread out there about favorite breeds and why you like them, but this thread is about chicken breeds and characteristics that we dislike. With that being said, I really don’t like tinted eggs...
I’m not a fan of Houdans, Crèvecoeurs, or Sultans. I just don’t find them attractive. Oddly enough I don’t think the fifth toe on Faverolles would bother me as it does on other breeds. :idunno
I actually really like Cornish cross. They have a really sweet attitude. Once I have my own property I plan to let a broody hen hatch out or I’ll just put day old Cornish cross chicks under her to raise. I’m curious how they will turn out.
I am kind of torn on feather legged chicken breeds. On the one hand I think they look great on Brahmas, on the other hand I don’t like sparsely feather legged chickens.
I’ve never been a fan of Rhode Island Reds or Plymouth Rocks as they seem overly common. I’m not a fan of Polish, I do like crested birds but the Polish crest is just too big for my liking. I don’t like the fifth toe on chickens. I don’t know why I just don’t like the look of the fifth toe...
