Don't forget to watch Larry the Cable Guy...."Only in America" tonight. He is going to visit Cackle's Hatchery. Should be fun.

Roosters can start crowing at different ages. Some people have vidoes of their roosters crowing at 3 weeks. (It's true, I saw it myself!). One of mine crowed at 8 weeks. One, not until he was 4 months old. I have an 18 week old who hasn't made a peep! So, who knows. IMO it depends on if...

Another trick is to take a leaf blower and after you dust the coop, use the leaf blower in there. It gets the dust all over and into the cracks. Use a mask, of course. Then you may want to use some DE to help keep the mites at bay. Good luck.

I understand how you and dan feel. I have been there. BUT, these threads are here to help us better the quality of chicken breeds. If nobody cared or knew about what makes a certain breed of chicken what it is, then we would all end up with barnyard mixes! I appreciate those "divas" as you...

I just put a drop or two on the back of their necks. Like I said, you pay the same for any size tube . So, I get the largest tubes, put some in a jar and take a medicine dropper and just put one or two drops on their neck. If you have a large bird, two drops, a small bird, just one. Works great.

I use the dog drops on the back of their necks. The kind that says for mites, ticks, fleas, etc. It costs the same for the large dog size as it does for the small dog size and it goes a long way. I also use Sevin's dust and do the shake and bake thing. Put some of the dust in a plastic bag...

I have sometimes been able to tell sex at birth, they were more solidly built. You could feel a hardness in their stomach area. They always stood up straighter and if you had them in a relaxed group and made a screeching noise, the males stood at attention and the females crouched down. Not...

X2 I agree! I have read so many stories about this and it seems to be as delisha says. We give our rooster treats which he loves and looks to us more as caretakers than rivals/litter mates. We have never had any problems so far. Keep a healthy respect for each other. The few times my...

IMO, it can be both. Plus, I have heard that some chickens will grow into their "roles". Like, some female hens can grow bigger combs if there was a rooster that died and there is no replacement. My head hen started mounting the other females when our rooster died...then went on to lay eggs...

Update photo of my now 14 week old BLRW roo. He still has baby fuzz! He makes no noise....no peeps, no clucking, no crowing. I still haven't named him...thought to name him Pokie because he is so slow feathering, but that is not very manly. I guess he will grow a name eventually.

BLRW can come in three colors. Blue, Black and Splash. If you look back through this thread, there are many photos of chicks of these three colors. You can compare yours and see what version you have.

    Blue Laced Red Wyandotte THREAD!

We had a cross beak chicken. She was the sweetest thing, but very needy. We had to feed her in deep dishes so she could scoop up her food. She could not pick up anything straight off the ground. She died at 8 months old. There are stories about people tube feeding them to keep them alive...

My little guy still has a lot of baby fuzz! I will try to get new photos. Yea I was trying to get him some nice females but that's not looking good. If I decide to hatch eggs again soon I will get them from you again! You have beautiful birds. Right now I have a full house in the Brooder...

    Blue Laced Red Wyandotte THREAD!

I bought what was suppose to be a BLRW from some breeders. One was a splash and the other was suppose to be BLR. Well the little Blue one is growing out bluish feathers on its chest, but there is no color in them. Do they sometimes do that or until more feathers come in or did I get "Had" yet...

Your EEs should have slate colored legs, beards and muffs (small, but you should be able to tell if they will have them) and have pea combs. Your wyandottes should have rose combs. That should help you tell which are which. They are all really cute. I just love chicks!
