Here's my March babies now. I ended up with 3 males 3 hens and a silver that I'm not sure of the sex yet. The white hen is from the February hatch along.
7 out now. Last egg doesn't look like it's doing anything. I'll let them dry then take them out and check the last egg... Will let kids set the other eggs later.
Something told me to wake up at quarter to seven. Came downstairs just in time to see the first two hatch. I've got six hatched waiting on two that hopefully won't be far behind.
My 8 quail eggs are now in lockdown. I've added a little bit of water to the incubator 3 times over the hatch, plus I've just filled it all the way now. Fingers crossed for a good hatch. Oh I also can't fit the egg crate on top of the egg tray for this hatch as the eggs won't all fit laying on...
I've also added a little bit of water, air cells look good but I don't want them getting too big too early. I won't be filling it all the way though until lockdown.
I've candled my quail eggs as they are on day 5. I think all 9 have been doing something. Looks like one has quit as has a red ring all way round but I've put it back for now n will pull on day 7 if it definitely has. I've got 5 definitely fertile. And 3 doing something but not so easy to see.
I didn't ivomec the quail. I have put little (big) bird in with the others. I need to clean down the broody box and put it away for a few weeks time when my other eggs will hopefully hatch.
Does anyone ivomec their young birds as a safe guard? I was thinking about doing the quail before they go outside, but I'm unsure if they are too small/young. If so do you know the doses? I'll check the % tomorrow as the box is in the shed.
Do you know.. I turned the eggs about half ten this am and forgot to turn the incubator back on :barnie. The temperature had dropped to 28.C over about an hour and a half. Shouldn't be a problem just like mother hen going on her break. But I'm annoyed at myself. Told DH to check the red numbers...
I think I'm just trying to find what works for me and my "desk top" incubator. I don't think there's any point me joining in on your thread because if this hatch and the next one (spare fridge eggs) goes well I probably won't be setting anymore. (maybe button quail down the line).
