Although they share a name, they are two separate breeds, not just varieties within a breed. I agree, might as well have different names as well.
From my limited experience and what I have heard from others, Partridge Chanteclers do go broody frequently, though they have mixed results as far...
My Partridge Chanteclers came from a BYC forum member, who I believe got her stock from Blehm. Not 100% positive.
I've had two roosters, father and son. I've never weighed either, but they are (were) on the small side. I'd be shocked if the one I have at the moment is over 7 pounds.
My experience with Partridge Chanteclers (that I think came by way of Blehm) is that there won't be much to put in the freezer. They're on the small side.
I have limited knowledge, so please confirm with someone else before just accepting this. But, it is my understanding that the male Partridge Chantecler should have a very dark/black chest. Like the one in your first picture. The second one that say you can feel his breastbone also has very...
I put 19 Partridge Chantecler eggs in the incubator yesterday.
If anyone is interested in some hatching eggs, I'd put the girls back in isolation long enough to collect a dozen eggs.
$25 plus shipping.
I'll probably hatch some more once my incubator has space (it can hold more than 19...
I've gotten five eggs a day from my five PC hens/pullets the last two days. Most are still undersized pullet eggs, but I see an incubator run in my near future, just as soon as they get a bit bigger.
A cushion comb is Pea + Rose + Smooth (a modifying gene). Pea and Rose are both dominant, so there can be recessive genes hidden in a cushion comb, but it can also be bred out.
Both my PC parents must have a recessive something that they are passing on. Not really surprising that they both...
Two days in a row I have found a pullet egg in my coop, the first on the floor next to the waterer, the second under a pullet in a nest box. She's learning!
I have four pullets that are almost 6 months old. Their mother has laid small eggs through the winter (with extra light in the coop).
A couple of genetics questions.
1) I have done a little looking into the cushion comb genetics. Am I correct in understanding that two cushion combed parents will not always produce a cushion combed offspring?
2) These wattles aren't present on my other females. Is there a connection...
A couple pictures of my Partridge Chantecler cockerel.
One of a nice pullet.
And one of a pullet with a bit too much facial growth (above and below). I think she'll have to be removed from the breeding program.
I don't expect eggs until spring -- they'll be 6 months old on about March 21st. Did yours start laying in the winter, or were they laying last fall too? My one hen is a pretty consistent winter layer since I've been using a light in the coop.
My PC eggs are on the small side. Is that your...
Is anyone in the northeast raising Partridge Chanteclers? I'm in Maine. I have a pair of Partridge Chanteclers from which I am now raising five offspring, one cockerel and four pullets that are about four months old. I hope to hatch many 3rd generation this summer.
Anyway, just curious if...

I think this guy was taken by a predator today...I found a pile of feathers that look like his and see no sign of him (nor do I hear him). Strange in that there were nearly a dozen bigger, slower, Freedom Rangers in the yard with him at the time.
This leaves me with just a single...
I have a Partridge Chantecler chick that is only a couple of hours old, and signs that there will be more when I wake up tomorrow.
Is anyone near southern Maine interested in starting a flock? Or, mixing blood in an existing flock?

I suspect some honest mistake.
My interest is in the partridge, not the buff, so I won' be breeding her.
It is possible a hen jumped a fence and got caught by a Buff rooster before she got back home.
Well, when you put it that way...
Is it possible that there was some buff in the...

Post a photo and lets see it.
Who did you get her from? Whose line is it?
I hatched her from eggs purchased from an individual through BYC forums, they are reportedly from stock purchased from Blehm in Michigan.
Here is a picture:
And, while I'm at it, here are two pictures of my...
