It has been very cold and snowy here in Ohio. My Runners have done amazing. They come out to eat n play even with the cold n snow. They do hang much closer but have had no problems. They do go up under my deck to hang out more as this is only place without snow, but I have caught them just...
Lol..mine will eat out of my hand but heaven forbid you try to touch one....lol. Even this one is funny. She will follow you everywhere and wants to sit in your lap but if you pet her or anything she starts protesting...lol.
Yes she sure was. It got so cold out there and her not having anyone to cuddle with was too much for me and her. She could see the younger chickens but had no one in with her. She seemed sad and I couldn't help thinking she would be too cold, so she's in here with us til she grows up more. My...
Yes, was an old fleece robe of my daughter's...cut the pocket off with a strip to run up her belly and made slit in pocket for her tail and tied a piece up back to a hole for her head..quick and simple til I can order one if needed. Just put panty liners in the pocket to catch the mess...lol
Well my lil lone Hatcher is getting so big. She was sent outside to the barn but being she was alone I felt terrible and brought her back inside. At, least til she is old enough to go out with big guys full time. So needless to say she has a diaper.....and hates it...lol. But she does like to...
Thanks for responding. I did start adding a bit of ground flax to there food to up their protein a bit. I usually do this for all my birds before winter hits since good forage supply decreases. The ducks usually aren't as interested in treats as my chickens and guinea are. They would rather go...
Hi guy! One of my girls just looks terrible. She is eating and drinking well, acting perfectly fine. Problem is her feathers just look dull and scraggly. The rest of the ducks are smooth and shiny as they should be. She is however an egg laying machine. Lays everyday and rarely skips a day. Even...
Harmony and Cornelius are parents! A couple weeks ago we hatched this lil one. Was the only lil duckling to make it, but is a spunky lil thing. And doing great now.
So do you think I should put some fake eggs or golf balls in there when I take eggs out or will she go broody without me leaving them, that is if she is actually going to. I have noticed since she's been laying that all the eggs are in one spot where before I would find them in all different...
I believe once she starts sitting they will be ok as the chickens won't go in even if one duck is in there. I'm also considering moving her to the shed for brooder area once she does, but not sure. Will depend on her really as she doesn't much care to be messed with now and I am sure that will...
So looking for a bit of opinions and advice..I have a couple ducks laying in a corner of the coop. Do I need to keep the eggs in there to encourage broodiness or will she go on to that stage once she's laid so many? I'm worried about leaving them in cuz my chickens like to peck around in their...
I'm so very sorry for your loss. I will keep you in my prayers for comfort and peace as you face the days ahead. Be thankful for the beautiful blessing she was to you and your ability to give her a place she was so very loved.
I am thinking it is my mallard. I found one back in coop after I let them out to free range today. I'm pretty positive my runners will just lay wherever they happen to be at the time. I'm hoping she will lay a handful or so and go broody, as none of the eggs but one in my incubator are viable. I...
All the duck eggs have been white/cream colored. So not sure who is laying.. thinking Pekin due to color but not sure. Could be black runner, mallard, khaki Campbell or Pekin. The Cayuga and Blue Swedish aren't old enough to lay yet.
