Happy to see Wrangler is reunited with you again Cheeka!
I'm sorry MC, that sucks :/
W4W, keep me updated on your Cheeka profile pic replication project! I'm really interested in trying it myself if you find the right combination. :)
Meet new Pullet Phoebe, a DaisyBell Hybrid, who is 16 weeks...
Hello all, I haven't been online in a while. The main reason is that on the Friday before last, Babs died. She was 4 and a half years old, which is a good age for a hen rescued from a battery farm. She was the first hen that I ever got, three years ago, and, I'll be honest, she was my favourite...
Soft shell eggs are much harder for a new hen to lay, I recommend you read these articles on egg binding :

Hens don't really get much of a choice in the matter of whether they lay or not. Believe me, if hens could choose not to lay then there would be a lot more barren hens!
I can't remember what last years prank was but I remember falling for it!
I was quite careful not to bring up this 'magic feed' until it had turned midnight where I live. :)
Finally my little Frizzled Polish pullet has become a hen! She laid the cute tiny egg last night. It's so small that it won't even fit in my egg holder so I have had to get the ceramic chicken out that I use for holding bantam eggs.
Also, my Marans has taken to laying in the corner of the coop...
