I just noticed something, does someone know....do the eggs absorb more moisture as they near hatch?
We are in lockdown and it seems that the water is disappearing faster. Supposed to be hatch day
today and I filled the channels this morning and also yesterday afternoon, and it is 100 per cent...
I just read about someone else doing this, and I did the same thing. I cracked one of the eggs,
though in my case I dropped the bator lid and oneof the panes bounced out and put a hole and a dent
in the egg. I covered it with strapping tape, which is all we had. I am so @$%#&*%$!!!! MAD at...

I'm afraid I don't have any experience with splints, perhaps someone on the injuries forum would be able to walk you through it?
I have read you can use cardboard. That foot doesn't look too bad from what I can see. I don't think waiting a day or two to see if it straightens out on...

You can gently tape it straight using a very light piece of wood, balsa wood maybe, or a toothpick?
Or a coffee stirrer, something like that, as a splint, and cloth tape to secure it. I have never tried this, but if you don't, the toe will likely remain that way...we have a rooster...

Filling all the water wells in the bottom should give you sufficient humidity. If you need more, a sponge. or a maxi pad, or even a dish filled with aquarium rocks and water is good. You can add more water through a tube stuck through one of the vent holes; aquarium tubing works very...
Ok, we are going into lockdown tomorrow So, I should put a sponge in? Should I use a standard kitchen sponge for eight eggs? Or what size should I use? Also, IF they go past the hatch date (o please no) and the water is getting low, should we add more water?
When you lock down, is that full three days bf hatch? So in other words, if ours are due to hatch the 19th, should we quit turning the eggs on the 16th, or the 17th? Is hatch day considered one of the three full days?
Well, you throw the cheesecloth away after the hatch, you might still have some clean up, but not as much. I actually read that on an incubator website, but can't remember which one

Thats a good idea I am going to have to try it. youngbiddy don't you go into lock down tomorrow?

Perhaps I wasn't clear, I meant lining the inside shell of the bator with foil. Like a skin. Just poke holes through it where the air intake/vent holes are and it won't interrupt air flow at all. Just a thought, I haven't tried it yet.
Oh, I thought you meant put the foil on the...

I have a guage but I am also using sponges in mine too the last 3 days and I still have the rocks in for heat. Our humidity is staying around the 74% to 80% right now, but we just had a major storm, so our house may get cool later and affect the humidity, not sure. I am going to keep...
I am totally new at incubators but I would think foil would get too hot and prevent air flow around the eggs. I did read somewhere that you can
put cheesecloth under the eggs the last three days, to help with cleanup. Has anyone tried that?

This happened to us and the power DID go off. Fortunately I was home! I frantically called our vet who is just down the road,
they kindly let me bring the bator there and plug it in til we had power. I left it there five hours so it stabilize for a while bf I
unplugged it and took...
I am worried about the humidity in ours, we have the little troughs full, but no humidity gauge, so I am just
guessing that if the troughts are full we should be ok? This is a borrowed incubator and the previous owners
didn't use a gauge and they had a 70% hatch rate or better. Should we use a...
