Thanks, I will get my mitts on "it" tonight. They are super flighty right now. Then I can get a better look and a couple better pics. I love digital cameras. I took 20+ pics this am to try and get 3 clear enough to post.

The feathers that got me wondering are just before the base of the tail and curve downward on either side. I haven't seen those before on my girls. I haven't questioned this guy until now as the color on the wings has really only showed up blotchy in the last week or so. Sigh. This is one of...

Good morning! It is a beautiful Sunday here in Washington state. I went out to let the pullets free range and noticed some possible saddle feathers on one that I had suspicions about. Their colors keep changing. I have four EE's chicks that are from 9-11 weeks of age. Any opinions would be...

Thanks! I posted on the lavender araucana breeding thread, and they felt most likely would give black babies with the dark moms. Very unlikely to give a blue egg gene with his straight comb. No matter what, he has a forever home with us, whether I hatch out eggs, or not. He is a truly great...

It appears to be a dominant gene that I have spread to my daughter (and son in law)! I will check out that thread, thanks! If this new EE turns out to be lavender, wouldn't that be something. I will ask him to lay an egg for me, but will not hold my breath. I think I would more likely try...

I read something on here that I found very interesting! I have what was supposed to be a lavender Araucana. He has a straight comb, so I thought "cross breed-EE". Not that it matters to me one bit. He is the best rooster anyone could ever ask for. I don't believe his color is recognized in...

I am glad they are just having a late molt. Hopefully they fill back in before it gets cold. And back to giving you those beautiful blue eggs. We love our EE's!

Did they recover faster than your other birds? If it was mites or lice taking them away may have helped cut down on the pests and helped them recover a bit. I was stunned that it appeared that I had a pest problem. We try to take excellent care of our girls. But they looked bad for so...

That seems like a long time to be in molt. Do you have any organized bare areas? I ask because last spring (March) I had some hens molt but two months later still had large bare areas. One had a bare right chest. Completely bare. I started a medical thread to figure out what that was. We...

We lost three meat chickens a couple days ago. We can only guess, but probably raccoons. My layers, and meaties were free ranging in the same area. My rooster was hiding in a nest box at bedtime. Further inspection showed him to have several broken feathers on the back of his leg, and a...

Thanks for all the advice and pics. I think that I will buy local so that I have a chance to get some different colors.

I purchased my two EE's from My Pet Chicken last year, and they are both the partridge pattern. I love some of the grey, to white colored ones that we see here. I don't see any way to mail order and ask for specific looking chicks. My local feed store (Big R) sells what they call Aracauna...

My roo Cecil. Lavendar Americauna. Straight comb= Easter Egger. Such a good boy to his girls. I wish he had a tail, but I am told that lavendar goes with broken feathers.

I am not posting about my EE's, as they are well, healthy, and molting right now. Rather just a comment on sexing. I really appreciate all I have learned here. I have 18 meat bird chicks right now. They grow so fast. If feathering in helps determine sex for cornish cross, it has been super...

My husband and I have been discussing the idea of getting an incubator. I have a lavender Americauna roo. His color alone makes him an EE, but add the straight comb and he is all EE! I chose him with these things. I like the straight comb. I wasn't planning to breed. Now, I am...

My rooster, Cecil, crows later. Like 5pm. Crazy boy. I watched him Crow at the wall. I add light to equal 14 hous per day. That keeps the eggs coming, and my chickens eating.

I also use light in my coop. It is on a hard wired timer in the coop that turns the light on at 4:30 am, and off at 8:30 am. Then on again at 4:30 pm, and off again at 8:30pm. My timer was about $25. It is extremely complex to set the on/off times. I would do a different one if I ever need...
