Well I would say yes. I purchased chicks from an auction from GFF and so far half the flock has died off. Not sure why all my other birds are healthy and the RB are in a pen by themselves. But I'm slowly losing a bird like 2 a month they are only 4 months old.
Well said and grateful to those of you that are "anal" so the rest of us have a resource to improve or obtain these rare breeds.
On another note- hopefully your birds/eggs will be available in future to use as standards to go by
??? What do you mean? I figure I will wait till they feather out then start separating for cull. But is there something else I should be looking for in their beak style??
Well it may be a barred rock hen not sure. didn't tag them after they hatched so ...hey what can I say backyard breeder :-)
But that's ok if they have barred rock in the Cuckoo Maran, it's the barring gene I'm going for whether it's a CM barring gene or Barred rock gene doesn't matter.

Thank you...was having trouble figuring out the gene notations. When what I wanted to do was plug in the breed and have it give me an estimated offspring since typically most chickens may have other gene markers but not expressing them. if that makes any sense.
That's my daughter! LOL ...well I've got some Welsummer's coming next month so that will work out perfect. And like I said it's an experiment so the process will be fun! but I will keep posting pics as I go along. Thanks again niclandia ..I really appreciate the help.
