Love my sand...easy to clean...I have no pests. Hang my water/feed. Have funnel turned down over my feed in case any little climbing critters want to give the chain a try. Think putting a piece of plastic hose over my chain would give them a realy good fall ! LOL

I live in NC but have never had trouble with the fleas.... My ladies love the sand....and it is so easy to keep clean! Good luck.... Some people mix a little DE in their sand when you put it in there.. But it is so fine, wear a good mask while spreading it...But you should wear a mask also...

I wouldn't put anything over any grassy area. I'm thinking about building an area just for my sand in the run. This is all purpose sand from the garden shop at Lowe's and its in my coop...played down a linoleum flooring first. I will use construction mixed sand when the grass is gone in the run.

Well, I saw a utube on a guy cleaning his sand with what looked like a sieve type utensil made for silverware...I went to WallyMart and sure enough I found something similar and to work I went yesterday and then finished today.....I LOVE MY SAND !!!! CHECK THIS OUT! I didn't put any new sand...
