I did do a dry hatch, but it was in a room in my basement which has a sump pump. So the incubator was dry but the room in the basement was cool and had more humidity then the rest of my house. I can't believe that was almost a year ago already.

to float test get a small cup of warm not hot water. If they aren't pipped, don't test any that have pipped you will drown them. Set them in the water the ones alive will wiggle, (like when they rock before hatch) it will be noticeable. the others will just sit there, float high or sink. You can...

I had a weird hatch this time. I'm just hatching for someone else not sure what they are going to do with them but, he gave me 77 eggs . I had one hatch on day 15, 9 more on day 16, 35 on day 17. 2 died; one in incubator and one in brooder this morning. I float tested the remaining eggs. 3 were...

can you get airline tubing in thru the vent hole to add more water? I do this if I have sponges on top. I'm not sure what kind of incubator you have. The coturnix I have hatched always seem to hatch on day 17 too, with a few early on day 16. But the hatch I'm doing right now one decided to join...

Yes, you take them out of the turner. You can candle or not, I like to candle ;) If you have a lot you don't have to candle them all. But it helps for the next time you hatch. the more you do it the better you get and know what to look for. What to look for when you candle is the size of the air...

I hatch upright in trays. I like it. It's less mess and the unhatched eggs don't get kicked around like soccer balls.Less stress for me

any more hatch? I ustreamed my last hatch so my nieces in a different state could watch them hatch too. Wouldn't you know 12 hatched before they got home from school and the other 12 didn't hatch until way after they went to bed. I think they like to mess with our heads.

Where are you located? what is your room humidity? I don't add any water to my bator during incubation and I leave the plugs out the whole time, but I have a styrofoam incubator and live in the midwest. My incubator is also in my basement by the sump pump, the room has about 60% RH

I wouldn't add water or food to the hatcher. The babies can stay in the hatcher for a day or two without food or water since they just absorbed the yolk. I usually leave them in until they are all hatched and dried off. 120 that's a lot of chicks, If you have alot hatched before you leave you...

Quote: oh sorry to hear that. I know nothing about gamble eggs except that what comes out of those eggs are very cute! Did you crack one open and find a bullseye before you set them or just set and hope for the best not wanting to waste any?

You will get a lot of different opinions on this topic, Do it however you feel comfortable. I don't believe there is a magic number, I stop turning day 15, and I don't add any water til I see the first pip. The coturnix I've hatch seemed to hatch on day 16 1/2 to 17. But I'm no expert...

I hatch for others but I do it because it's fun and love to try and experiment with different methods to see what works best. I don't keep any myself. I give them away or trade them for something else to hatch or have even traded for homemade baked goods. Yum! The people I usually hatch for...
