In regards to a few posts in the past. Here's a couple of Welsummer roosters I'm saving back for evaluation for possible breeding. I prefer the one on the right but the roo on the left has more red in his chest which, from what I understand, will help with the heavy peppering in my hens.
I specifically kept a roo with a lot of red in his chest for this very reason!! The other thing I'm wanting to breed for is a more flat back, my last roo stood up way too tall.
haha... I knew exactly what you were going to say for your first answer before you said it!! ;) I have about 30-40 pullets that I'll be selecting from this year. And I have about 8 roosters I'm holding on to until I can make a final decision. I think I've hatched about 100 Welsummers this...

I'm with you - I do agree that the SOP and Poultry shows can cause the breeder to be short sighted and breed for only "pretty" and not breed for production (meat and eggs) but on the flip side it doesn't need to be totally disregarded either. I think we have a find a happy balance between the...
SOP says cockerels weigh 6 pounds and Cocks weigh 7 pounds. I believe a rooster is considered a cockerel until 1 years old, someone correct me on that if I'm wrong please.
The photo posted of the "SQ line of eggs" is stolen from Whitmore Farm Marns page: http://www.whitmorefarm.com/marans Pulling this kind of crap is a bad, bad, bad idea Mr. Poultryboy15! Before I jump to too many conclusions I'd like an explanation of why you are using a photo from Whitmore...
@mimi I've attached a picture of some of my hatchery Welsummer juveniles from a couple years ago. The body coloring looks the same but the head looks a bit different in coloring but your birds may be a little older than my were at the time.
