Leg stubble is still a problem in our American Orpingtons too Toni. I have seen several Buffs get DQ'd at shows for it. People are outcrossing them to the big buff cochins to get more under feathers. They pretty much look like a hard feathered cochin without feathered feet. I have them too from...

Ha! Honestly I don't know what to call him. The coloring splashed through him looks like Khaki or Dunn. I have a solid Dunn hen I may put with him and see what happens. I am also thinking of putting him with some reds and see if I get some pyles. I believe he is keeping a secret!!

Ha! That is a lot Toni and Aubrey. I am really working on ginger red and black this year. Will probably hatch a few bb reds but maybe 50 to 75 each ginger and blacks so I get some to pick from. I hatched probably 70 or so bb reds last year and am very happy with them.

Yes I do notice that. Also beaks. I have several roosters who have to get their beaks trimmed once every 3 months or so. They just keep growing!

Ok, haven't posted these much anywhere yet. Here is one of my black Ohiki hens. The hens I am getting all look pretty much like this one. The rooster are not ready yet but hopefully a couple more generations and I will have some good ones.

Well I too have been thinking about it Chuck. They are out there now, they still need some tweeking but there will be all qualities being raised now as with all other types of birds. There are several who have them who are wanting to work on them and that is good. I think now it is important to...

Ok, I have another one different too. My Black Ohiki mostly have Black legs. There are some white and yellow too. I have seen some green on production breeds before but not anything else that I remember.

I believe the Japanese Standard just calls for dark legs but I do agree with Amanda that we would ultimately breed for green legs. I still have some BB Reds with very nice type that have yellow legs but I am getting more and more with green and can use them more for breeders.

I also feed 1/3 ration of All Stock with pellets, oats, and molasses. I feed it year round though. My mix is 1/3 layer crumble, 1/3 All Stock, 1/3 crimped oats, and then I also add about 5lbs fish pellets and 10lbs black oil sunflower seeds. total mix is 165 lbs at a time.
