I'm thinking of setting some more eggs for meat birds, but I really didn't enjoy processing them, so am reluctant to set any... Any words of encouragement/advice?
Could just be a birth defect. If it is eating and drinking, leave it. If it isn't might be best to euthanise it.
Yellow stuff? What colour is your feed?
when I cooked them with bacon and sausage meat they took 45 mins in the oven. I think it's because I didn't let them get to room temp before putting them in. Thought they would only take 30mins. How wrong I was :-P
If you want them to be your best friend, get some mealworm!!
Mine don't like my hand in the box (unless it contains food), but if I pick one up it will stand on my hand quietly enough - like in my avatar.
yeah... I had to do 4. They were tasty, but it was such a horrific experience. Some reflection may change my mind. I might raise some more when the weather is warmer and they can ive outside. My only target was to hatch eggs... I did that and now I get 3 eggs every day to eat!
I sat staring at mine when they were in the incubator. Towards the end, I swear I saw them move, but my husband didn't believe me. They did move. I was totally right!
I used my finger and poked at food so they knew where it was. Also pick them up and put their beak in the food. Have you tried making a mash with the food and some warm water?
I have an air purifier - I might try it for a bit. I'm planning on putting some sand sheets in instead of sawdust for the next few days to try and get their toenails down a bit. They are well sharp and have scratched my hands today.... hope it makes a difference! Failing all this might just have...
