My big rooster got pretty protective once he got his hens but he's getting even more so lately. He only has 2 hens, would getting more hens for him help? I figured maybe he's being overprotective since he only has the 2 and if he had more he'd mellow out a bit. I was thinking I might just get a...
Hello,
We're experiencing a problem with a non-brooding hen attacking our brooding hens. Our Rhode Island Red is the one not brooding and the other two have taken up the preferred, previously shared nest. Our White Barred Plymouth Rock got up to take a walk in the run and the Rhode Island Red...
I bought a BO rooster a couple months ago. He just turned one and he is very aggressive. I can’t go anywhere near the coop or run without being attacked multiple times. He just won’t give up no matter what. Any suggestions on what I can do or should I just get rid of him?
I attached a picture...
Hello everyone! To make a very long story (post: https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/taking-care-of-swirls-the-wry-neck-silkie.1298333/ ) short, I've adopted my neighbor's Silkie Chick, who somehow became afflicted with Wry Neck. Her name is Swirls (named for the fact she will spin/run in...
I am trying to incorporate my new baby flock of 5 (6.5 weeks-old) with my 3 hens. I have done a bit of look dont touch, and two supervised free visits in the run. Completely unexpectedly, one of my babies (white maran) is pecking my 1 year old hens in the face! She is really attacking my...
Hello BYC users, I ask for help on some roosters in my coop. I have 2 roosters and 4 hens. 2 hens per rooster. I usually let them out the small cramped coop to let them free range for the afternoon and evening.
I need help on how I can get my older rooster ( buff Orpington) to stop attacking my...
Well, I didn’t want to have make this post one day but here we are. I raised my geese and ducks from babies, and jeffery my gander was my absolute best friend. We got along so well, I would spend all my time with him. He’s almost a year old now and suddenly he got aggressive. I know this happens...
A few days ago my sweet Golden Cuckoo Marans, Rowen (23 weeks old), attacked my Welsummer cockerel, Wren (18 weeks old), for no apparent reason that I could see. I was right there but it happened so fast. He may have tried to mate with her but doubtful as I haven't seen him attempt such things...

Hey everybody,
I ordered 17 straight-run Cochin, Sebright, Japanese, Old English Game bantams a few weeks ago. Im not sure how many are roosters yet but my guess is, there will definitely be multiples.
My question is: Are those breeds pretty aggressive with one another if they live in the...
Hi everyone I’m new to this site as well as geese and ducks. I want to explain the whole thing so it’ll be long but please read! I’m so confused/ upset....
We have 3 Pekin females ( 3 months) and then found an abandoned Canadian gosling -Philip ( 2 months now) and immediately got him a friend...
Hello friends,
Please help. My 2 Pekin ducklings are almost 2 weeks old and 1 of them is so aggressive to his sibling. He is constantly going after her and nipping on her little wing or anywhere he can grab onto causing her to run away, hide and peep constantly.
This aggressive beautiful rooster is a pain in our asses.
He is not looking at a long life if no one else wants him.
He is only up for offering because he is a show quality black sumatra.
Not looking to drive him anywhere, and as long as he is not made to fight, I am ok with whereever he goes.
My hen Bailey successfully hatched 12/12 eggs however 1 died. The 11 chicks are now 7 weeks old and I've noticed that Bailey is slowly trying to sneak off every now and again and then she'll go back to them. In particular there's 4 chicks that she attacks and chases off. I don't really know why...
Hello everyone, I have introduced some new chicks to my flock. I have had them around 7 weeks, they are fully feathered and have had outside time in a cage every day, for the past two weeks to enjoy the sun and meet the older chickens. Well I let them run around my feet when I'm outside and my...
Hi! I’m new to chickens and definitely wasn’t expecting to keep a rooster. Since we did I’ve enjoyed the comfort of knowing he’s with them when they are free ranging. I have 5 hens and 1 rooster. My hens are Barred Rocks and ISA Browns and my rooster is a Bantam Silkie. I kept him because I...
This is just a broad question to try and see what others experiences have been. Have you ever had a bully chicken (not a rooster)? If so, what did she do to make you feel she was a bully? Did she injure others in the flock? How did you handle it? Do you wish you’d done anything differently?
We had a happy little flock of 4 hens, they lived in a hen house attached to a fully enclosed walk in run inside a larger area protected by an electric fence. Then in January two were badly injured, dog attack, and have been recovering inside the house in a small 2 metre run in the hall. The...
Hello, here is my question, I've been hand raising this last batch of chicks, hand fed every day for months. 6 hens 2 roosters, they are now about 6 months old ( give or take a month ) and I have introduced them to my main flock of 10 hens. Normally, I would of re-homed both roosters but my head...
I have read up and down the pages of this site and others and am still questioning exactly what is happening and how I am supposed to fix it.. or if I need to find the hen being picked on a new home.
So these hens all grew up together from the get-go. 3 are Barred Rock, and 2 are Ameriucana...
