Hi there,
It has always been our dream to have chickens, so we started our little chicken farm recently.
We have 8 chicken. So far it's been great, though we are still learning.
So we are a little concerned. Is it normal that they lay an egg everyday?
And if it is, is there anyway to make...
so I just bought a pair of adult bronze turkeys a couple of days ago and have them in a medium-sized holding pen until I get there big run finished. I knew that the hen would start laying soon, but I went out today and found an egg in the middle of the pen. I had a nesting area in the pen for...
I was out putting the chickens up for the night/ collecting the eggs, and I found 9 eggs! 9! And I didn’t miss one yesterday or the day before either. They lay 8 every day. Is this normal? I’ve heard that it’s impossible, but it’s not the first time this has happened to me...
Hi everyone:
I have an 11 year old hen, part leghorn, who in her day laid a many eggs. In her old age she stopped laying egg which I understand.
However, she recently (like two days ago) starting laying eggs again, going in the nest box. The first egg was long and thin and oddly shaped. The...
My blue orpington just started laying eggs, finally! The one problem is that she isnt using the nesting boxes in the coop.
How do i train her to start using the nesting boxes? She's been laying the eggs in the coop on the floor bed. I have another hen that hasnt started laying yet, but I'd like...
Hey everyone!
Hope you all had a great holiday season! I got chickens in September and am a first time chicken owner! I figured they were about 18 weeks when we got them, that would put my girls at about 32 weeks old now. I was hoping we would get some eggs before the new year... but no such...
I have 14 Hens and 2 Ducks. All were laying the entire summer but as of the past few weeks every single one has quit laying.
I've got my coop winterized so it's not overly cold but I don't have a light out there yet.
1. Any ideas as to why they quit laying?
2. Is there something I can do to...
Hello! I have 7 girls that are almost 19 weeks now and although it still is relatively early I concerns over their egglaying. I have heard that in the winter I need to supply artificial light, so do I? To get them started?
P.S. I was originally planning to let my chickens be natural in the...
I'm dying for my first-ever egg. My first batch of pullets are 22 weeks--3 silkies, a Mille Fleur d'Uccle, and a bantam cochin. My second batch are two 20 week Ayam Cemanis and a younger stunted one.
No eggs as of yet, although my cochin has had the reddest, plumpest comb ever, red wattles, and...
You could imagine how excited we were to see one of our chickens lay their first egg.. but that was three days ago and she has not laid one since.. should we be looking for anything or reason why she isn't laying anymore after her first?
how will my chickens know when to build a nest and where to lay their eggs? Will they still use the nest if I toutch it? Do they make one nest and always use that one or use many different ones? Are dead pineneedles, twigs and leafs ok to make their nest? How often do they lay?
We had a black hen who tragically died at two years old, but she had never laid an egg. And we have another white hen who's near three years old and has never laid an egg. Do certain chickens not lay eggs or not want to?
Seems like a crazy question! I have two silkie hens (at laying age) that I just purchased. Planning to add them to my flock after keeping them indoors for a couple weeks or so. They are in a huge dog crate (Great Dane size/ the biggest dog crate they make) I have a container in it with pine...
So I woke up this morning to check on my hens and there were 3 eggs in their coop. These are their first eggs! I don't know who laid them, but I have a pretty good idea. This hen has frequently been very loud and cackling(i think thats the correct term) all day. She is very broody and seems like...
