Most years I have young game chickens running around house where I can see them very well. This year is no exception and a consistent pattern is emerging like in past years. Currently a gray hen bred to a non-gray rooster has chicks pushing 6 weeks old so if hatched earlier would already be...
Hello, I'm a first time quail owner and I just purchased two button quail online. I had asked for a mated pair, and I think I got two males instead. The breeder insists that I got a pair, but the more I look at them, the more uncertain I am. The brown one is definitely a male, as he has the bib...
What breed of duck is the dark one in the middle? He is a drake if that helps. I adopted him from a family member and they were originally told he was a runner, which he obviously turned out to not be.
Hi so I have these Polish chickens and have just read that it's easier to tell the sex based on the head fluff shape before they get their feathers. So I'm going to share some one day old images in the hope that some one with some experience might spot some clues. Pullets or Cochins? There are 4...
It's probably still to early to tell but if anyone has any clues or guesses let me know :) I love these babies whatever they are.
There is a 3rd chick but that one has grown up with a chicken and will run away from me so I didn't want to chase it around for a photo.
Hello there, I'm rasing my first flock of chickens and i've got two pekins mixed in that I got from tractor supply. They are right at 14 weeks, and I'm still clueless if they are male or female. I've tried listening to their quacks, but they only give out short ones so it's hard to tell, leading...
I have a beautiful young Black Copper Maran Rooster.
Purchased as brand new chicks on March 15th.
Started Crowing a few weeks ago. We live in the city limits so he unfortunately has to go.
Would like to either sell him for $15 obo or trade for a new layer or young female pullet around the same...
I have 6 mallards that are 4 weeks old today. One of them (Willie) is already developing green feathers on his head. If I’m remembering correctly, my last male mallard (about 10 yrs ago) didn’t start getting green feathers until he was around 3 months old and was molting his first set of brown...
HELP! I know that it’s normal and can happen but we have at least two ladies in our flock the are turning into roosters. We have two full grown roosters that were male to start with and we have at least two recently hatched baby roosters. Is there too much testosterone??? They aren’t older hens...
Hey guys and gals. So I'm working on a research project and figured I'd ask my questions here. I've only owned egg layers but the research I'm doing requires me to find information regarding meat birds.
So I've found a great little table for Cornish Cross's here:
What I am needing are...
I have two groups of bob whites.
Group 1 has 3 females and 2 males.
Group 2 has 4 females and 3 males.
I read that they pair up.
Questions:
How do I know who is paired up with who?
Do I pull out one female in each group?
Or leave them be someone will get lucky and have two females... :)
Hey everyone! So I was looking at Harlow, my 4 wk. old Rouen duckling when I noticed a little green shimmer from the feathers coming in on the very top of her head... Does this necessarily mean that it is a boy? If so, knowing that the Rouen is the heaviest of my ducks, I would probably have to...
Hi,
I was wondering if anyone would like to tell me the breed and gender of my 4 month old chicken. I think she is a girl, but I don't know the breed and when she will stop growing. She is tiny for her age and is that due to her breed? Or something else? Please let me know asap.
Thanks:wee
Hi everyone. I primarily signed up because I've searched a lot on here since getting our first set of chicks ever. I finally joined because I'm really curious to see if there's a possibility that one of our ISA browns is actually a rooster. I know their sex linked and we did buy from a hatchery...
Hi
I have almost 10 week old silkie chicks, i think one is bearded and one non. I have read how difficult it is to sex them, wondered if anyone could give a guess based on photos? we were thinking one of each up until recently, now thinking 2 roos?
Thanks
I had to go on a trip for a couple of weeks, knowing two mature males would end up sitting on the eggs that were still being laid. After getting back I was just able to check on them and Juneau is pretty far away in a field, no wind/rain protection whatsoever, while Denali is sitting in a nice...
Hi lovely people!
My Muscovy duck is about to turn 7 weeks and while I’m 90% sure she’s a girl I figured I’d ask the experts just to be sure before I start training her to come when her name is called haha.
The reason I think she’s a girl is because when compared to the other one I had (who...
