Wolfram didn't move. He just stared after Bleddyn. "I tried to stop you guys. If you die, the blame is on yourselves, and not me." His gaze lingered on River for a moment, wishing she would stay. "Please be careful, River."
With a soft sigh, he slipped into the undergrowth after Bleddyn. Somehow the thorns were sharper now. The branches and vines more offending. Quickly, he struggled through the wood, until he staggered into the clearing. What he saw was utter chaos.
The Pure were fighting twice as hard now, and there seemed to be twice as many of them. Mapleshade stood in the center of the pavement, a fairly large ring of blue-gray-black flame surrounding her, and another man. This man towered over Mapleshade, and Wolfram realized that the man was the one creating the fire. Then adrenaline kicked back into his veins. She killed Tayn, Thomas, and Mom and so many more...
With a snarl of fury, Wolfram pelted forward, and ran straight into the flame.
"Same to you, Wolf. And hey, if you do get yourself killed? I'mma kill you." River smirked, revealing sharp white fangs.
She scrambled after them, the pain in her side only subdued by raging adrenaline.
I have to get back to the boys and Camilla and Ash. Alice should be safe in Wolfram's car; it's out of the way enough.
As she broke through the brambles after them, her breath caught. The clearing was in utter turmoil, it appeared as though the Pure had doubled as the Heroes were tiring, and in the center of it all, Mapleshade stood tall; surrounded by some kind of odd looking fire and flanked by a tall man.
There. So she's just gonna stand there, protected, and let her men spill their blood while she's safe within that fire? Coward.
Something beside her drew her attention, and her eyes fell to the ground to be met with the sight of a charred body, burned beyond recognition. All that she could tell was that it had once been female. Her stomach twisted, and her breathing faltered once more. The remains
could be a Pure, but something told her she hadn't been one of the terrorist.
Who? Camilla, Alice, Ash, Sherri, Jenna, or Taylor?
Movement ripped her from her thoughts, her hand surging towards her gun until she recognized who the two inhumans who stood before her were, and she stumbled forward, pulling her oldest son and youngest niece into a short hug, before backing away and inspecting them for wounds. "You two okay? Where's Lach?"
"We're fine," Camilla murmured distantly, tugging a strand of fiery red hair behind her ear.
"I was with Lachlan, but when that fire sprang up-" Finlay glanced behind him, motioning towards the blueish-gray fire with his hand. "-I was stuck on one side and him on the other." He finished breathlessly, glancing back to his mother.
"Uh, alright, you two--" She scanned the area. "You two go over to where Taylor and Ash are, help them out, and hey?
Stay safe." She ordered, her voice firm.
They nodded, and retreated back towards the others, jumping into action and attacking several Pure, but River tore her eyes from them, turning towards the fire to see Wolfram run straight into it.
She groaned, her eyes flickering over the fire until she found a spot where the fire was lower to the ground, and she suddenly flung herself forward, before bunching her muscles and leaping over it, barely avoiding having her ankles scorched, and landed on her feet, but the pain at the jostling of her side caused her to double over.
Get up, get up!
She slowly stood up tall, her dark blue eyes locked on Mapleshade.
