«We Could Be Legends»

Wolfram nearly choked on air at her words. "A dream?" He beckoned around them, incredulous. "I'm not making any sense? I'm not making any sense?! Wake up, Alice and take a look around you! This isn't a dream, this is reality!"
He heard Lily's voice in his ear, telling him to shut up and that he wasn't handling the situation correctly, but he wasn't done. He grabbed her by the wrist, and pinched the skin on her forearm. If I can't convince her verbally...
"You can't feel pain in dreams, remember?"
"Get off." She smacked his hands away from her. "You keep telling me to wake up. Cam said something about a coma. And people in comas can hear real people talking right? So, I'm in a coma or something. And there's someone nearby telling me to wake up." She shook her head trying to clear the confusion. "There's no way this is reality. But why would I be in a coma? Did something happen with Dyn again?"

"It's a metaphor!" Wolfram rolled his eyes. "You are not in a coma, Alice. You are alive. This is reality. Get that in your head."

“Yeeeah,” Indigo drawled. “That chicken.”
By now she had gotten most of the zombies... I mean people... organized. She had even discovered some members of the Multitude that could help. Now they were figuring out what to do with the injured and such and she could focus on other matters. Like Toby. “Where’s Toby now?” she wondered.

Toby stood hiding behind River. Even after what she said, he couldn’t make his feet move. His eyes landed on Indigo and a new wave of panic washed over him. He forgot she was there, and he wanted to sink into the ground and never come back out. It’s okay, she won’t hurt me. Just make it to the car, and everything will be fine. Maybe she won’t see me. He tried to tell himself.
Toby took a deep breath, pulling his hoodie over his head. He looked at the ground, his hair falling into his face. He walked towards the van with Alpha in it as quickly as he could without falling over, his arms wrapped tightly over his chest. He couldn’t tell if his shaking was from the cold or the overwhelming fear and anxiety. It felt like everyone was staring at him, and for all Toby knew, they were. Every word they said felt like it was directed at him, and he shrank farther down into his sweater.

Toby watched Lachlan go, and then looked back at River, his eyes brimming with tears. He ran a hand through his hair in an attempt to self soothe, his foot tapping nervously on the ground. He wanted to tell her all of the ways she was wrong, but when he opened his mouth to do so, nothing came out. He dropped his gaze to the ground, trying to keep himself from crying. The last thing he wanted was to have River change her mind after seeing him cry. “Thank you,” Toby whispered, shooting her a small teary-eyed smile. He didn’t know the words to tell her just how much that meant to him. Toby wiped his face with his sleeve, looking towards the van.
River gave him a small smile, but raised voices began shouting behind them. "Oh boy, they're fighting... Go rest, Toby. Okay?" She said, before limping towards the van.
Alice was going to respond with a simple answer, 'You didn't look like you under all the grime' or 'You look like someone else.' something simple to continue the dream. She knew if she got too serious she'd wake herself up, she'd done it too may times before. Not that this seemed to be a particularly good dream, but she liked not having to hide her powers. She was interrupted though by her sister.

"Of course I'm ok." Alice forced a small smile, as genuinely as she could, was it normal to feel tired while you were asleep? She leaned forward and put her hands gently on both of Woframs sides finally starting to heal him. "Stop nagging at me mom jeez, you'd think something horrible had happened. I was just sleeping." She said jokingly.
"Something horrible? Something horrible? Something horrible did happen! Look around you, Alice, there's a flipping war going on! There was an earthquake, a fire, almost everyone is dead... Connor is dead! Bleddyn doesn't have a dad anymore, Ali. Aunt Ash doesn't have a husband, and we're still orphans, don't you get that?! Mom, Dad, Uncle Connor? They're all gone! And probably more of our friends are too. If that isn't horrible, what is?" Camilla yelled, her voice breaking. What is wrong with her?

Wolfram slapped Alice's arm when she pushed him, pulling her hand away. Maybe that'll knock some sense into her.
"What is wrong with you right now?" He glanced back at Camilla, gesturing to Alice. "Camilla? This isn't normal, right? I'm not just making assumptions, right?"
"No, no she isn't acting right. She never acts like this." She rasped, glowering at her sister.
Alice didn't shy away from Wolfram, angry now that he was trying to intimidate her. She interrupted his long winded rant, yelling, "I DON'T! I DON'T RE- w-what?" She stared at him horrified. "You're sick. What is wrong with you? My parents aren't dead!" Alice patted her pocket looking for her phone, she could easily prove they were fine she just had to call them. "Where's my phone?" She growled annoyed it wasn't in her pocket. "Whatever! You aren't making any sense. My parents are fine. I know they're fine. Which means you're not real, and this IS a dream."
"What is going on here?!" River's voice was poisonous as she slid up to them, having heard some of the argument. "Alice, calm down. This isn't a dream. This is real, so act like it. Alice, you know I love your parents, but they're telling the truth. Them, Connor, Jenna, and Sherri are gone. We can't fix that. But we can make sure we don't follow them. And fine, if you don't want to think this is real, fine. Tell yourself that, but at least act right so we don't all get ourselves killed. This isn't the place to be arguing like this. " She snarled, looming over all the teenagers.

"You think I haven't tried to make her understand that?" Wolfram hissed, looking over at River. "Do you think I feel like arguing right now? No. I don't. I want to find Bleddyn before she gets herself killed, and get everyone out of this place. But I can't do that with Alice acting like an idiot!"
His chest was heaving heavily after he finished. He glanced back at Camilla, then at Alice. "Heal me so I can find Bleddyn."

Alice stepped away from the three who seemed to be ganging up on her folding her arms defiantly across her chest. She wanted to yell and argue and fight, but there was no point. They wouldn't believe her, and she couldn't believe them.

"Fine." Alice grumbled, she sighed and stepped forward offering her hands to Wolfram again to heal him the rest of the way.

"I'm not the idiot here, idiot." She grabbed his hands in hers angrily and continued healing him, closing her eyes tight, not just to concentrate, but also so she wouldn't have to look at his stupid face.

Indigo noticed Toby shrinking into the passenger seat of was it Wolfram’s car. He probably doesn’t want me right now, but I should make sure.
Indigo opened the door and peeked in. The already quite short man looked boyish hiding in his sweater like that. Maybe I should leave him alone.
“Hey,” she said, staring into his defensive glare, “Everything ok?” She reached for his arm. He was shaking. She let go. “Ok, everything is not ok. Do you want me to help you forget it?” She knew the answer. Unlike most people, he didn’t want her charms. He didn’t like the gaps she left behind, while everyone else embraced them.

Toby managed to make it into the car with little trouble. He wrapped his arms tightly around Alpha and buried his face in the dogs soft fur. He was just about to lock the car doors when the door closest to him opened up, followed by a concerned British accent. He scrambled backwards and away from Indigo, his now darker-than-normal eyes wide. “G-go away. Please,” Toby stuttered, pulling his knees to his chest and leaning away from her.
He tilted his head to the side, his face a mix of fear and confusion. “F-forget-forget what? I can’t forget it. They won’t let me. I can’t- I can’t make them go away. You need to leave before they-I- accidentally hurt you.” He said, slightly rocking back and forth. He scratched at his forearms. He was itchy, and could feel bugs burrowing beneath his skin.
Alpha whimpered, pawing at Toby’s leg and pushing his head between Toby’s hands, in an attempt to stop the movement and to calm his scared partner down.

Brisa opened her eyes, turning to look at the group of frustrated people with a shocked look on her face. “Connor, Jenna, and Sherri are dead?” She asked, her heart sinking. I don’t believe that. That can’t be true. But somewhere inside she knew that it was.

"Oh, it's them," Indigo said vaguely. She stared at his violet eyes, glaring at the black flicker that infected them like a cancer. "Could you please just go away?" she asked, politely as she could. "Calm, Toby, they'll leave you."
