«We Could Be Legends»

Toby finished cleaning the bathroom. As he was washing his hands, it occurred to him. I am such a dummy. I told Jessi to call me if something was wrong. My phone is broken, so she can't. Idiot! I need to get it repaired, now is a very inconvenient time for it to be broken. He thought. He grabbed his cleaning supplies and left the bathroom. His shift was almost over. Perfect. I just need to tell my boss I can't work today and I can go fix my phone. He put his supplies back in the closet, and walked outside. He got in his car and drove home. He got to his apartment, and grabbed his house phone. He dialed his bosses number, and waited for her to pickup. "Hi Elle, this is Toby. I'm so sorry, something has come up and I can't work today, maybe not even this week. I'm sorry for the inconvenience." He said.
"Oh. Okay. I'll let Sapphire know, she can take your shift."
"Thanks." Toby hung up, and took a quick shower. He got dressed, and drove to the phone store. "Hey, is there anyway you can fix this? Or transfer all the stuff into another phone?" He asked, handing over his shattered phone. The man nodded. "I'll see what I can do. Come back in a few hours and we should have something done by then."
Toby nodded and left. He got into his car, and sat there for a few minutes. Now what should I do? I could go back to my apartment, or I could go back to mom's place to see if they have a plan yet.
Or you could find the Multitude base, see the person you're crushing on, wink wink.
What?!?! I'm not crushing on her!
Oh really? Don't lie, she's pretty hot.
I'm not lying! And sure, she's hot, but her powers make her that way. Besides, she kidnapped me!
She saved your life.
Not having this conversation with you.
Toby turned on the radio, loud enough to block out the voices. He drove to Jenna's house and parked. He walked inside, and looked around. "Okay, what are we going to do about the key and the bank?" He asked no one in particular.

Wolfram leapt to his feet, looking utterly distraught. "Uh, something, and something soon, because Mapleshade is going to kill us all!" He yelped, ripping his sweatshirt hood off his face. "Taylor, someone I used to know, is now involved in this. She...Mapleshade is trying to use her to get the key from us."

Toby took a few steps back. "She won't kill any of us. Hurt us, probably, but kill us, doubtful. Don't get me wrong, she probably going to try. If she doesn't then that's kinda pathetic. But all of us against her, pssh, she doesn't stand a chance." His voice sounded confident, but his eyes said otherwise. "Also, that Taylor person sounds rude. And stupid."

Something stirred in River as she heard the terrified teen-aged boy, wincing her tear stained eyes at his voice. She let out a strained sigh, not want to get up-- Not wanting to face the world... Face her friends and sons. She'd failed her family so badly so far, who was to say she wouldn't fail even more? Who was to say Mapleshade wasn't going to kill Finlay, Lachlan, and Zen? Was Zen even... Alive? Thomas was supposed to be with Zen a state away, fixing police radios-- And very much alive, yet he had no life still in his chest, it had been clawed out of him with the sharp strokes of death. Who was to say her husband hadn't met the same fate as her brother?
Even if I've lost everyone else, I still have Lachlan, Finlay, Alice, and Camilla. They need me. I won't let them meet the same fate as Thomas, Silver, Tayn... Kayla... And Myrick. And they won't end up like me, God forbid it, just not like me. She begrudgingly hoisted herself up to stand up, stretching to her full height.
"Wrong!" She said, her voice eerily cheerful, especially for her tear stained face. "Mapleshade isn't going to kill anyone else, well, actually... She's condemned herself to death." Her voice had suddenly changed to deathly dark by the last part.

Wolfram just stared at Toby, eyes wide. "You. Have. Got. To. Be. Kidding. Me." His voice was almost emotionless, but his eyes showing shock. "You....you just called Taylor rude and stupid? You don't even know her! How dare you judge someone before you even know them!"

Wolfram turned slowly to face her, his eyes changing from almost emotionless, to very dark, emotion swimming in the depths. He stared at her silently for a few heartbeats, silence falling over the house. "I wish I could believe you." He whispered.

Toby shrugged. "She's on the bad guys team, which makes her rude and stupid. Believe me, I was thinking of a lot worse names."

"No. No! URGH, PEOPLE!" Wolfram snarled. "She isn't with the Pure, dude! It's complicated, just wait till she-" A knock at the door made him freeze. He looked over, a red-haired, green eyed girl standing at the door, her normally cheerful face crest-fallen, a frown plastered to her face.

Toby was just about to say something, when Taylor entered. His eyes widened, and he cursed, a lot louder than he intended. He dropped his head down and pulled the hood on his shirt over his head, casually trying to sneak into another room. Please no, please no, please no. He had recognized her as the girl he met after he ran from the park.

River gave him a sort of crazed half smirk. "No one said you have to believe me." She chirped, before shooting a glance at Lachlan who was starting to kneel in-front of Camilla. "Let her sleep, Lachlan, it's best. She'd be in worse mental pain awake." She murmured.

River glanced at the door. "Isn't that the kid who yelled at Mapleshade on my porch? Huh."
