«We Could Be Legends»

Brisa opened her mouth to ask what he meant by “the phone” when hers started to vibrate, ringing loudly as if screaming for her attention. She snatched it out of her pocket, flinching as her hand brushed against the key’s envelope, and answered Camilla’s call, seeming to forget the boy standing in front of her. “What’s wrong?” She asked, butterflies leaping into action in her stomach. “Is everyone okay?”

(I have been waiting for this moment in suspense for quite a while... :))
(Hehehehehhe)
"I'm getting the people at our house moving along and we're gonna meet you somewhere, we're getting the key. Aunt River, Wolfram, Toby, and Alice left awhile ago to get something to dilute the poison. I just got a call from Alice, she said they have a plan and that we need to get the key, then they'll meet us at the park. She... She seemed like someone was hurt. I think... I think I heard Aunt River and Wolfram in the background..." Camilla's voice drifted off, swallowing hard as she recalled the pained scream she had heard, then Wolfram trying to sooth someone... It could only have been River.
She blinked, shaking her head slightly. "Just, where are we meeting? If they have a plan, and knowing Aunt River's thing with plans, we have to listen and assume it's good." She mumbled, her voice coming out in rapid breaths.

“Um,” Brisa paused, unsure of how to answer. “I’m meeting up with Jessi and the others in the woods, but how about I tell them that there’s a change of plans and that we’re meeting at the park? Do you want to meet at the bench by that broken-down gazebo?” She asked her hurriedly.

"Yeah, yeah, perfect. Just, get them there, me, Lachlan, and Finlay... Ergh, and possibly Ash, Connor, and Jenna will be there, okay?" Camilla said hurriedly, glancing around as though someone would jump out of the shadows and attack her.

Wolfram looked away from Taylor, hunching over like he had been injured. He couldn't stand it. He couldn't stop the horrid images and thoughts that filled his head. His fathers shriek echoed in his ears, and he ultra-sensitive hearing could hear Mapleshade sobbing. And River's cry of pain when his bullet hit her...
It hurt so bad.
Not a physical pain. Nothing like that. It was worse. It was a inhuman feeling. A feeling of guilt and depression and grief and regret and rage all in one, and ten times worse then any feeling you could think of. He couldn't get rid of it, or the sound of shrieks, gunshots and sobbing. Tears streamed down his face, and his attempts to stop them failed horribly. He felt claws grab him, sink into his skin and bury inside him, ripping him from the inside out.
He had to face it then and there.
He was finally breaking for good. He was losing the last bit of sanity he had left. The last bit of self-control.
"Make it stop, make it stop....please God make it stop....keep them away from me...Oh God it hurts so bad....please I'm begging you!" He whimpered, sobs breaking through his voice. He was hunched over like a injured creature, cowering in fear and pain. "It hurts so bad. I can't....I can't take it...it hurts..." He cried out, whimpering something else incoherent.

Alice's eyes flicked over to Wolfram, "Uh-I have to go!" She said hanging up and tossing the phone back to Taylor. The high stress was starting to take it's toll on her she could feel her energy waning. Alice hurriedly walked over, and dropped down on her knees next to River between the two boys, "What do you mean it's not working? These things are supposed to be like super powerful." She put a shaky hand over Rivers blood covered stomach. Wincing at the feeling of her aunts heart beat. She gasped in a shaky breath squeezing her eyes shut, focusing all her strength into healing her, doubt and fear filled her, what if it didn't work, just like it didn't work for her mom, she'd lose her aunt too.
"You realized you caused this, right Wolfram?" Taylor growled, coming up behind him.
"What?"
"You shot her, moron!"
Wolfram stared at her with wide eyes. The world was spinning, his racing heart drowning out all other noises. He stood up, backing away from River. "I'm no better then my father. I'm a monster...."

River hardly noticed as Alice put her hands on her wound, trying so desperately to heal her.
Her eyes were riveted upon Wolfram, her head hardly held up, her hand slowly reaching out to give him a rapping tap on the foot. "Kid? Wol... Wolfram?" She croaked, continuously tapping his foot, trying with all her waning strength to get his attention. "Look... Look at me. That's an... Order." She rasped, her eyes hardly opened as she stared at him, as though looking through his soul.

Wolfram drew in a sharp, shaking breath, River's soft rasp drifting around him. He couldn't face her. He just couldn't. Not when the guilt was clawing the inside of him, dragging him down forcefully. But at the same time he just had to.
He turned to her slowly, forcing himself to lift his bruised face to look at her. "River...." He whimpered.

“Okay, got it.” She hung up after a quick, “Good luck!” to Alice and began scrolling through her contacts. Suddenly she remembered that Virio was standing near her, and she glanced up. “You’ve kind of been dragged into this, but you’re in danger now. Either get as far away from me as you can, pretend you were never involved, and pray that the Pure don’t find you, or come with me and stay silent.” And if he acts like he’s going to betray us I might have to take him out. Actually, he knows too much. Change of plans. She paled a little at the idea of becoming a killer, even if she would be protecting her friends. “Actually, scratch that, come with me.” She said, a threatening tone entering her voice. He doesn’t know that my powers suck. Please let him buy my bluffing! Watching him out of the corner of her eye, she texted Jessi the news. Answer soon, Jessi! She begged mentally, pocketing her phone. “Come on,” She told Virio, using her powers to gently tug at him, not wanting to waste her energy. If he so much as flickered she was out of there.

Jessi felt her phone buzz again. k, b there in 5 she texted back. She picked up the body and flew to the park as fast as she could.

(I just pondered posting this for about 30 minutes.
I still don't know if it's a good idea.....but I intended for it to happen anyway....
*incoherent nervous screaming*)

"Wolfram." Michael growled. "Back away, now." He growled.
"No!" Wolfram hissed, hatred glowing in his eyes.
"Why do you hate me so much?" Michael asked, surprisingly almost gently.
"Because of what you did! You broke my heart when you abandoned me and mom! I always tried to make you proud of me, but you never noticed me. You acted like I was no one!" Wolfram paused, swallowing a sob. "You broke me! You broke my heart...and I hate you, because I still love you...and I hate myself for it. I hate that I still love you after all the hurt you caused me! But I love you because...because you're my father...." He choked on his words, forcing his father backward until Michael's back hit the tree. "I'm sorry. I'm so, so sorry. I have to do this. I have to kill you. I have to...." He ended in a desperate whisper, silent tears streaming down his face now. "I have to protect those I care about. I care about you, I love you, but I have to kill you. Because you are a monster. I can't look at you the same way any more because now I know how much of a monster you are..."
"Wolfram stop. Don't do this. Join me and Mapleshade, I'll help you. I can help you heal. Join us, please." Michael murmured, his voice surprisingly gentle.
"No! No no no! You killed my mom! I will never join you!" Wolfram's body trembled, silent tears rolling down his face like a river. "I can't do worse then this, ok?! I just can't. I have to. I have to kill you. It's the only way. It's the only way I can be free. You led me to this! Know that you put this on yourself!"
Hand's trembling, he put his finger on the trigger.
"Wolfram, stop. I still care about you, I l-"
A gunshot broke Michael off, along with a strangled screech as he crumbled to the ground, blood spattering across the grass.
The gun fell from Wolfram's hand as Michael fell still on the ground, blood pouring from the gunshots. Not just one, three, right to the heart.
Wolfram fell to his knees, burying his head in his hands as sobs over took him. "No, No! What have I done?!"
Alice stumbled away from Michael, Looking quizzically at Wolfram when he said for her to shoot anyone that moved, she didn't have a gun. She looked around at the group, it all seemed rather comical, despite the fact that everyone was waving guns around, no one was actually hurting anyone, just throwing threats around. As much as Wolfram hated this guy, he didn't seem able to pull the trigger. And the Pure didn't seem to be willing to shoot any of them, because they needed information.

Alice still had her back to them, she hadn't realized this guy was Wolfram's dad. She flinched with the three piercing gunshots, he.... he actually.... killed him? Killed his dad?! She couldn't turn around, she couldn't look, Wolfram's words cut in to her. But there wasn't time to think about what happened, the Pure had a reason to shoot them now. Alice ran at the dark-clad man nearest her and grabbed the end of his gun, some how pointing it away before he had a chance to shoot her. The blast making her ears ring. She punched him as hard as she could her fist slamming into the bottom of his chin, snapping his head back, he stumbled back dazed and she grabbed the hot barrel of the gun twisting it from his hand. She'd seen how they were used in movies, but never fired one herself. She instinctively pulled back the safety thing, pointing it at the man and firing. She hadn't expected the kick, it twisted her wrist, but that didn't matter, she felt his blood spray across her face, but that didn't matter either. Adrenaline drove her to find another target. Alice spun pulling the hammer back again. This time bracing her arm for the guns recoil.
"Now, that's more like it," Frosty muttered, leaping off the window of the car and flying straight at the face of a Pure guard.
Wolfram pushed himself off the ground, staggering to his feet. He whirled around, firing a shot at anyone who came near. Sooner rather then later though, he ran out of bullets. He spun around, to see Mapleshade, grinning maliciously. She shoved him against a tree unexpectedly. "Where is the Key?!" She hissed, eye glittering with rage. "I don't have it....I don't know...I don't know!" He sobbed.
I just killed my father....I just killed my father....I'm a monster....I'm a MONSTER! I just killed my father!
"Just kill me, Mapleshade. Just....kill me."
He looked up as a screech ripped through the clearing, a masked man falling dead at Taylor's feet.
Only Mapleshade and two other men where still standing. "Retreat." Mapleshade suddenly ordered, backing away from Wolfram. "Get us the key, or your precious Lily and everyone you hold dear dies. That is a promise." She snarled, retreating back to the van.
Wolfram whimpered, sinking down to the ground.
The gunshots caused River's heart to jump, her ears twitching madly. She tore her gave from Mapleshade, even though her mind screamed at her for doing so, and riveted her eyes upon Wolfram's sobbing form. Oh lord, I wish he wouldn't have been forced to do that. She blinked slowly, inching towards Wolfram. "I'm so--"

Something passed through River's abdomen, ripping like fire as it sank deep into her organs, obliterating all the flesh it touched. She gave off an odd yelp of pain, her face contorting as her nerves screamed their discomfort to her brain, blood spitting out of the wound, and her heart palpitating with adrenaline.
She wasn't sure if it was Wolfram's bullet or a masked man's that had torn through her, but she whirled, her gun firing off and its bullet embedding into a masked man's chest, killing him right as she dropped to her knees, gasping for breath. "That hurts a little..." She wheezed, blinking rapidly to clear the tears that were springing to her eyes.
She raised her gun once more, her hand shaking as she pulled the trigger, a bullet whizzing into the remaining man's arm, before she holstered her gun and pressing her hands against the gun shot wound, trying to apply presser. "I... Think this is gonna... Need a band-aid..."
"I have to take my bio test," Bleddyn supplied helpfully, staring down at the lustrous floor as if she expected it to gain the ability of human speech and solve all of the debilitating mental conflict for her.
The raucous fire alarm and the hallway's clamor of rampaging students didn't affect her in the least.
Peter stared at her as if she had lost her mind. "Dude," he muttered, "are.. are you okay?" He then realized it was a stupid thing to ask. Of course she isn't okay, you moron.
River stared at the two boys dumbly, her hearing echoing with her own rapidly increasing heart beat and all other sounds starting to go fuzzy, though she understood when they pulled out crystals.
She reached out a pale hand for Wolfram's crystal, her body shaking, and all color draining from her face before she timely face-planted in the dirt as her body's strength began wearing away.
River blinked rapidly, trying to keep her vision clear from the black spots that she knew would soon appear.
She flinched at the feeling of the stuff tumbling out onto her, but awaited the release from the jaws of pain with earnest.
But as the pain didn't dissipate, the muscles and organs didn't knit back together, she groaned. Nothing?
She muttered something incoherent, twisting her head to look at the wound, and winced from both pain and an odd disappointment as she did.
The crystal hadn't worked.
Wolfram threw the pieces of crystal on the ground, becoming more and more frightened. "Why aren't they working?! I thought you said they healed you before?!"
River grimaced, staring up at him. "I... I don't know... They should work..." She rasped, a trickle of blood starting to flow from her mouth.
Alice's eyes flicked over to Wolfram, "Uh-I have to go!" She said hanging up and tossing the phone back to Taylor. The high stress was starting to take it's toll on her she could feel her energy waning. "I told you..." Frosty muttered, but his voice faltered. There was concern in the rooster's eyes. He took a step forward, about to ask if anyone here was a healer, but didn't need to. He watched Alice lean down, then turned away from the group. He brought up his foot, clicking the button on it.

Toby watched as the rooster pressed something on his foot. He pulled off the bloody gloves and zipped them in a ziplock bag. He walked towards the car and opened it. Alpha jumped out of the car and Toby knelt down, resting his forehead on Alpha's head.
