«We Could Be Legends»

Wolfram stiffened, the distinct sound of footsteps alerting him. "To late." He whispered to River. He turned slowly around, heart pounding against his chest. He was sure he was going to die, he was positive Mapleshade was behind him. But she wasn't.
Taylor, battered and bleeding, and Lily, just barely standing with Taylor's help.
"Wolfram," Lily breathed, tearing away from Taylor. She stumbled, but managed to reach him. He realized her face was sickeningly pale, her bright green eyes widened with fear, jeans torn and a leg dripping with blood.
"What happened?" Wolfram hissed as Taylor approached him, acutely aware that Lily was staring at him.
"Mapleshade. She attacked us when we tried to flee. You guys are stupid to still be here, she's looking for you." Taylor looked pointedly at River, Ash, Connor, Peter, Toby, Brisa and Bleddyn. "All of you. And when she finds you, I can promise you she will show no mercy, she will slaughter you on the spot."
"I think we've figured that out," Peter muttered, instantly regretting having opened his mouth at all. He watched them with concern, realizing how badly hurt they were.

Toby stood up. "Hey, at least it sounds like it will be a quick death. That's a plus, right?" He said, then shook his head. "Sorry, nows not the time for that. Pretend I didn't say anything." He crept closer to the injured girls. "Did Mapleshade follow you? How badly are you guys hurt?" He asked.
"I don't think she followed us. I found that my light bending powers are good for one thing, and that's creating diversions. I don't think she saw which way we went." Taylor explained quickly. "I'm fine, Lily not so much." She indicated to the other girls injured leg.
"I'm fine." Lily snapped, tearing her gaze from Wolfram and glaring at Toby, as if just daring him to come closer.
"Likely story. Stop staring at Toby, he is only trying to help!" Wolfram hissed, eyes flashing.
"Oh, you guys, it's really not time for this!" Taylor groaned.
"Just don't let him come near me!" Lily hissed.

Toby's face fell. He took a few steps back, raising his hands in a non-threatening way. "I-I'm sorry. I just wanted to help." He said quietly. What did I do? Is she-is she scared of me? He dropped his gaze to the ground, and picked up his backpack. He pondered over what he could've done, or said, but came up with nothing.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you." Toby said to Peter. He looked at River. "Agreed. Can you or someone else carry him?" He asked.

River ripped around, standing to her full height and letting her hand rest on her pistol's holster, immediately reading for it to be Mapleshade, but relaxed when she noticed that it was simply Lily and Taylor. "Look, Lily, Toby's the only one here with medical supplies. So unless you wanna have your leg get infected and you lose it, or you bleed to death, I'd give a lot of mind to letting him patch you up. Oh, and we already knew that juicy little bit of information about Mapleshade wanting to rip us to shreds. But thanks, Kiddo." She said, eerily in a softly happy voice, letting her hand slide away from her holster. "While I'd love to listen to everyone argue, we've got three wounded people here, and we really need to get back to the others before Maple-Monster finds us. Wolfram, help me carry Connor. Brisa, help Taylor support Lily."

Ash was immediately there, latching her fingers firmly into the wolf's shoulder blades and pulling backward with all of her might. Connor came free relatively easily; the desperate force she used not only released him from the remaining rubble, but propelled them both backward. But when she hit the ground with fur in her face, what she felt was the farthest she could get from relief. She kept herself from getting up, from seeing how badly he was hurt and just how badly she'd worsened it all.
Instead, she lay there awkwardly on the cluttered pavement with all sorts of debris pressing into her skin and relished the simple success of having him safely in her arms- even if only for this fleeting, delusional moment.

But when Bleddyn lunged forward, she wasn't going for her father. Instead, she scrambled beneath the hovering slab of deteriorating concrete, sliding painfully over the mess of smaller particles below it, and plunged her arm into the open cavern that Sherri had disappeared into. As soon as her fingers grasped a sufficient fistful of fur, she dove forward and rolled out into the open air. Once momentum had carried them both safely out of the way, she set the undoubtedly irked cat down in front of her. "Dude, you don't want to be a furry pancake, do you? Sure, trusting in Brisa is fine and all, but who knows where that thing will drop."

More gunshots. Why are there so many gunshots? Toby thought. He looked at Connor, now safely out from under the wreckage. He pulled out his first aid kit and walked over to Connor. He put on his glasses and a pair of gloves, and wrapped gauze around Connor's wounds, holding it in place. "We need to get him back to the cars. I can fix his wounds easier there, and it would be safer." Toby said, glancing at a chunk of rubble balanced precariously above them.

Wolfram's breath froze, as if his lungs had utterly failed him, as Brisa lifted the concrete. Ash was somehow faster then him, lunging forward and pulling the wolf free. For a fleeting moment, he didn't see Bleddyn, until he saw her roll from the dust, a spitting Sherri cluched in her fist.
"Ash?" He murmured tentatively when she didn't move. "Are you alright?"

Peter appeared at the scene, staring around for a few seconds in confusion. "I heard gunshots.. No one's fighting?" He was expecting to see a bunch of Pure members firing at the inhumans. Instead, he saw Bleddyn with an annoyed orange cat gripped in her hand.

Toby jumped up from where he was crouching by Connor, pointing his gun at Peter. He sighed, and lowered it. "Thankfully, no." He said, dropping the gun and kneeling by Connor again, fixing his hold on the gauze. "Hey, Pete, weren't you supposed to be with Jessi and Indigo? Watching the water filter? They didn't come here with you, did they?" He asked, looking around.

Peter squeaked and hopped back, then crouched down with Toby once he realized he wasn't going to shoot him. "Uh... the water filter.. I wasn't really doing anything..." his voice trailed off. "N-no, I don't think so. I mean, I teleported, so they'd have to be quick."

River crouched next to Connor, assessing his wounds, her brain spinning out of control. He'll recover... But he needs serious medical help. The color drained from her already pale face as she eyed the sticky blood covering the monstrous black wolf's chest.
She reached up, tracing the long scar on her face, a habit she sub-consciously did whenever she was stressed. Calm down, River. Keep your head straight. Just think and breathe. "We need to get him back to the others, now."

"Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you." Toby said to Peter. He looked at River. "Agreed. Can you or someone else carry him?" He asked.

Wolfram stiffened, the distinct sound of footsteps alerting him. "To late." He whispered to River. He turned slowly around, heart pounding against his chest. He was sure he was going to die, he was positive Mapleshade was behind him. But she wasn't.

Brisa dropped the concrete with a crash when she saw Bleddyn and Sherri appear, shuddering at the realization that she had almost crushed her friends. She stood shakily, weak from lifting the slab, and was brushing the damp earth from her knees when Lily and Taylor appeared. Noticing their injuries, She grudgingly decided to momentarily not dislike them too much until the whole group was in were in a better situation to do so. Wow, Brisa, how good of you. She scolded herself sarcastically, but there wasn’t much she could do. She just really didn’t like them. “Here, put your arm around my shoulder.” She instructed the taller girl, moving closer. She didn’t have to be rude to Toby like that. She thought, glancing at the hurt and confusion on Toby’s face.

"Well, don't." Lily snarled.
How was I ever in love with this...awful person? Wolfram felt a stab of guilt when he saw the look on Toby's face, and took a step away from Lily, shooting a apologetic look at the other boy. Not your fault, Toby. It's not your fault...

Lily glared at Toby, her eyes alight with fire. She hissed when River mentioned Brisa. "No!" She snarled, practically launching herself at Wolfram and flinging her arms around his neck. "I'm going with Wolfy."
Wolfram stumbled slightly, and shoved her off almost instantly, backing away. "Stay off." He snapped, retreating back toward's River. "How are we going to do this, exactly?"

Peter inched away as Lily proceeded to yell at Toby. He mentally noted not to mutter any more sarcastic comments under his breath while she was near. He noticed that the gunshots seemed to be fainter, which was good. Well, good for us, not for the people being shot... He shivered, once again facing the reality that people were dying not too far away from him and there was nothing he could do to stop it.

"Good idea." Wolfram muttered under his breath to Peter. "You don't want to be the one she's mad at, trust me."

Lily, watching after Wolfram with a hurt expression, glanced at Brisa. "You." She stated simply, it wasn't a question, just a statement. "No thanks."
"Lily," Taylor growled, "let the someone help you for once. You might be my best friend, but so is Wolfram. Treat his friends with respect. Or I will throw you out as Mapleshade bait."

Peter stared at Wolfram blankly for a second before realizing what he meant. He nodded to him, but the cat-shifter had already looked away. At Taylor's words, Peter desperately wanted to agree with her, but didn't really want to be glared at by Lily.

"Hey, child! Listen here." River snarled, staring dryly at Lily. "You wanna die? Because we'll happily leave you here for Mapleshade to kill you! So if you wanna stay with us, treat your mouth like a phone in a movie theater. Put it on silence. Oh, and Brisa? No need to help her. She can walk herself." She said, turning to Wolfram. "You grab his back end, I'll grab his front." She said, her voice now sweet.
She glanced at Toby, her eyes soft and apologetic. "Toby, thank you for helping Connor." She said softly, before turning away, her face hard again.
