«We Could Be Legends»

Toby looked at Brisa. "Same. When this is over I think I'm going to quit my current jobs and work as a bed tester. I heard it pays well." He said, shrugging. He trudged over the coals, briefly stopping to look up at Indigo. "You were supposed to wait by the cars, where you wouldn't get hurt," he said. He saw Mapleshade shift, and dove after her, grabbing her by the neck, doing his best to ignore the pain as her claws and teeth sank into him. He wasn't expecting to actually catch her, so when he did it came as a surprise. "Hey, can-can someone kill her now please? Quickly?" Toby asked, looking around.
Bleddyn skipped forward, running on nothing more than the fueling threat of constant death. If she'd stopped to think about it, everything would hurt.
She brandished her gun toward the despicable cat and rooted her feet into the unturned ground hard. "Can we, Wolfram?"

Shadow whipped his face away as her claws practically ripped open his face, but it only made it worse. Blood clouded his vision as a fist collided against his throat. He staggered back, a strangled choke escaping his lips. Violently, he shook his head, blood spattering the ground. "You're messing with the wrong person, lady." Full force, his foot slammed into her shin, glowing flames lashing out and attacking her from every angle they could reach.

Taylor dashed forward, clearing the trail of flaming coals in a clean jump. But so did the Pure, closing in on the group.
"Alright!" She raised her voice, yelling above the screeching of the rest of the battle. "Come on, Heroes! Let's show these good for nothing losers what we're made of!"
As flames attacked River, Brisa came silently up behind Shadow. With an angry yell she kicked the back of his knee as hard as she could, a fist-sized rock flying from the ground at his head full force.

"Yeah, why not?" Indigo said without hesitation. Her conscience didn't mutter as she put her gun against where Mapleshade's temple was, or where she thought it was. Cat anatomy was a bit different than human anatomy. The fact I am comparing them in terms of bullet entry is disgusting.
The last few days had all been disgusting, though. She had killed more people than she ever wanted to see with so minor an injury as a paper cut.
But Indigo unsurprisingly had no sympathy for this orange and black cat. "Do we have to ask? She deserves it." But still she glanced back at Wolfram. (Cluckcluck, I technically need your permission to kill a character. :p )

Toby glanced at Indigo as she pressed the gun to Mapleshade's head. "I agree. If it was up to me I would've snapped her neck already. But she was close to Wolf so he gets to decide." He said, watching the blood trickle off of his hands. A look of concern crossed his face. "Uh.. what if the Pure keep fighting us even after crazy cat lady is dead? Then what? You wouldn't happen to have an anti-Pure weapon, would you?"

As flames attacked River, Brisa came silently up behind Shadow. With an angry yell she kicked the back of his knee as hard as she could, a fist-sized rock flying from the ground at his head full force.
River couldn't shoulder her scream as the flames engulfed her, their fiery tongues licking at her skin. Oh God, make it stop. She gasped for air, but only choking smoke filled her lungs.
She moaned, before launching out of the fire, rolling on the ground to put it out, and the corner of her eye caught Brisa attacking Shadow; and someone else was now, too.
Lachlan had crept up behind Shadow in wolf form, but now he had hurtled forward with little care and sank his incisors into the man's calf, crimson liquid bubbling out of it where his long fangs had penetrated the skin.

Lachlan tightened his grip on the man's flesh, his eyes flashing dangerously. Oh, how do you like burning her now, huh? He barely caught sight of River stumbling to her feet, her hand going for her pistol when a little of Shadow's blood slid down his throat. Oh, ew, does that make me a cannibal?

Camilla shot forward, skidding to a stop beside Shadow, her hands shooting out and wrapping around his arm, yanking it towards her and she poured ice out of her hands, freezing the blood in the arm, and she saw Finlay pull his other arm outwards, twisting it at a painful angle.
Effectively, the four teenagers had stretched him out, bringing the powerful man to an incredibly vulnerable position. Alright, Aunt River, take him out!

River stumbled to her feet, pulling out her pistol, and pointed it at Shadow's forehead. "What, is that all you have?" She rasped, quoting what he had first said to her with a cock of her head.
Then, she pulled the trigger with no remorse.

Shadow couldn't figure out what hurt more. Frozen blood, a kick to the back of his knee, teeth tearing his leg, or his now broken wrist. Somehow, the once almost unstoppable young man was now taken down by four teenagers and a shifter.
The gun went off, but the bullet never embedded itself in Shadow's skull. With the little strength left in him, he forced flame to surround him, wrenching his hands and legs away from River and the four teenagers. The flames swallowed the bullet, melting it, encasing Shadow in a protective barrier. But it fell suddenly as Shadow saw, through the sea of black, a boy holding Mapleshade by the scruff.
And he shot away from the ground, abandoning the fight to protect his leader.

Swerving so hard he almost fell, Wolfram changed corse, skidding to a screeching halt in front of Toby. He stared at Mapleshade, Bleddyn's gun pressed against the cats skull. If it had been any other time, Wolfram would have felt a stab of horror or fear. But now, adrenaline pumped so furiously through his veins, he wasn't sure he could feel more horrified or frightened.
Wolfram had wanted to take her down in the fire ring. But now, the she-cat staring at him with cold loathing, he almost couldn't bring himself to say yes. "I...I...just...do it." With a jolt he was reminded that Mapleshade had killed his mother, and so many innocent people.
But neither Indigo nor Bleddyn had time to pull the trigger. A tall shadow shoved Wolfram out of the way, and Wolfram staggered to avoid Bleddyn, and wrenched Mapleshade from Toby's grasp.
"Do not move." Wolfram hissed, a growl, very much feline-like, escaping his throat. This seemed to stop the tall shadow, as he stopped, and turned to face them.
He clutched Mapleshade tightly to his chest, arms wrapped protectively around her. He did seem frightened, and thoroughly so. It registered that he could not be all that much older then Wolfram himself. Blood and scratches stained his face, his Pure armor ripped and his arm torn open from something much larger then himself.
"Please don't kill her. Please."
"Give me that cat!"
But Shadow turned heel, and disappeared through the sea of black.
But Wolfram only turned to Indigo, Toby and Bleddyn. "He's not going to make it far. That ex-Pure girl and a few shifters are stalking in the woods there, making sure no Pure leave alive. Come on, and bring anyone you see from the group!"

“Are you okay?” Mikki asked worriedly, kneeling beside him. “That was close.”
"Not particularly," he mumbled.
Ash was absolutely frantic. She felt far too great a responsibility for all these kids to even consider sheltering in a vehicle now. "Mikki, who are we missing?" she demanded as furious devastation roared around them. Seeing Peter materialize beside Mikki gave her a second's sense of relief. But that second's worth alone. Then she was once again swamped with the immensity of every imperiled life.
No matter what, she had to see every single one of her nieces and nephews home safely.
Alice- still asleep in a van. Camilla, Lachlan, Finlay- here, but where?
Toby, Jessi-
--Ash glanced up at the darkened sky and the pink wyvern that occupied it--- there she is and he's somewhere down here.
Bleddyn, Wolfram....somewhere far from the reaches of that horrid blaze
. Please.
Sherri- out there...
Peter, here, and...

"Peter, your sister." Ash knelt down next to the frazzled boy, reaching for his arm with bandaged, dead fingers. "Where did you last see her?"
"Uh..." Peter squinted at her, struggling to focus on her face. "Somewhere. Not here. I mean, at this battle." He said quickly, managing to stumble over his words without passing out.
Brisa winced as Taylor’s hand closed over the raw, burnt skin on her arm but did her best to ignore the pain as she came over to the group. Mikki hugged her fiercely, then let go and stepped back, and Brisa knew her mother wanted to take her home, fix her up, and protect her from the world. “Um, if we were to maybe surround the group with- no, that wouldn’t work.” She squinted at the ring of flame. “I could lift people over. We could try to attack from above, maybe?” She suggested.
"Okayokayokay." Bleddyn went to roll her sleeves up for utterly no logical reason and suffered a profound sense of disappointment when she realized that, not only did she not have sleeves, but that she couldn't even recognize nor remember what she was supposed to be wearing.
And that really hit her hard.
She bit her lip as she had to once more wrench herself away from the abyssal pull of psychological distortion. "I'm gonna do the thing." And so, with that declaration, she dove forward into the wall of fire, summoning the unparalleled might of an ancestral war cry nearly lost to the passage of time. "YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET."
(Why didn't she just ask Mikki to get her over? XD)
Shadow whipped his face away as her claws practically ripped open his face, but it only made it worse. Blood clouded his vision as a fist collided against his throat. He staggered back, a strangled choke escaping his lips. Violently, he shook his head, blood spattering the ground. "You're messing with the wrong person, lady." Brisa squeezed her eyes shut at the sound of the gun, not wanting to see someone get shot at this distance from her. Which was stupid, she had killed others at this distance herself. Instead she found herself being thrown backwards as Shadow lurched away from them, the heat of his fire hot on her face and hands. She watched, exasperated, as he grabbed Mapleshade away from Wolfram and held her against his chest, his eyes wide with fear, then disappeared between the other Pure members. She jumped as Peter came up next to her.

Indigo sprinted towards the pair of them. That's stupid. I can find purchase right now. They'll never get away.
She reached into her pocket, fingers digging in the dirt-lined jeans pockets. Aha.
Indigo's fingers closed around a small, powerful object, and lifted it up. A tazer.
She fired at a rather ineffective place, the Shadow's left leg. But the pulse went throughout his body, and more importantly, through the body of the little cat in his arms. Sometimes guns aren't always the answer. This has a bigger impact.

Brisa and her mom shoved back the Pure who had been fighting around Shadow, creating a clearing around the flame-wielding young man and the cat in his arms.
