«We Could Be Legends»

The pixie picked up her... erm... wings on the ground with a bit of disgust. They were dry and translucent as beetles wings. All of their former golden glow had gone out. “What do I do with these?” she wondered. They were dry in her fingers, and more fragile than the thinnest of papers. They rustled together in a way that set your teeth on edge.

Jessi glided through the air. She spotted a few people in a group, instantly recognizing them as River, Lachlan, and Wolfram. As she was diving down to greet them, something else caught her attention. A very small person was wandering aimlessly through the battlefield, calling something she couldn’t hear.
Toby.
She landed next to him with a thud. ‘What happened to staying put?’ Jessi growled, bumping his chest with her nose.
“I was looking for you. I couldn’t find you.” Toby said.
‘I was looking for the others, remember? I was coming right back,’ Jessi tilted her head to the side. ‘Are you okay?’
“Why does everyone keep asking me that? I’m okay, really.” Toby mumbled, squinting up at Jessi.
No, you’re not. You look like you’re dying. Come on, let’s go back to the cars.’
“I’m not- I’m not dying!” Toby protested as Jessi gently grabbed his sleeve in her mouth and pulled him towards the cars. She kept one wing on his side to keep him standing.
‘Let’s stop by aunt River, first.’ Jessi said, pulling Toby towards River.
‘Are you guys okay? We’ve been waiting for you at the cars.’ Jessi growled.

Finley took a step back from Alice, unnerved by her sudden mood changes. He glanced at Toby. "I think Lachlan went to find them." He murmured. And I hope he finds them soon.

"Uh, yeah. It's fine." Finley said, exchanging a glance with Camilla.

Lachlan grinned at him. "Boy, am I glad to see you. Was starting to think you were dead." He glanced Wolfram over. "And may still believe it." He said worriedly, looking over at River, then back to the other teenager. "We need to get you two back to Jenna's van so Alice can take a look at you two. She's healing people, and out of everyone, you two need it the most." He paused for a second, checking to make sure no Pure was coming up on them.
"Who all is there?" River asked anxiously.
"Toby's there, so is Alice, Finley, Ash, Lily, Peter, Grace, Indigo, and Brisa."
Wolfram scoffed, wincing at the twinge of pain the simple movement made. "I'm perfectly—ah—fine!" He gasped out, forcing a grin. "What makes you think I'm not okay? Let's go, then, before we get killed," he muttered, walking past Lachlan and River, limping slightly. If I just make it back to Alice...just make it back to Alice, and everything'll be fine, she'll heal River and I...If I even can make it back to Alice...[/B]

Crow spiraled through the air. His ruined tail feathers were making flying difficult, but he couldn't shift yet, not until he landed. He twisted sideways and caught a draft, before dipping down and tucking in his wings a bit. He stumbled to the ground, shook himself, and was about to transform when his eyes caught a flash of movement. His head snapped around, and his beady birds' eyes stared straight at a rather disheveled faun. Oh. Well, that's a relief. He shifted back into a human, then heard the crackle of a boot crushing a dry leaf. He spun around, and saw, concealed in some shrub, a masked face. And a gun. He froze for a second, momentarily panicking, as the realization hit him that he was defenseless. Then Crow remembered he was an inhuman. Oh, right. As the Pure soldier pulled on the lever of their gun, Crow's body became smaller and smaller, sprouting feathers, his feet growing scales and arching into claws. He felt something hurl past his head and didn't need to look back to know it was the bullet that had been aimed at his face a second before. He threw himself into the air, flapping quickly to avoid being shot. How many of these dang thugs are there?! He hovered for a second, trying to locate the other Pure. Three of them, it seemed like. He swerved to dodge another bullet. I need.., he scanned the ground, shelter! His eyes had locked upon a small stand of crispy-looking trees. He dropped downward, then cawed in surprise as he had to flap his wings sharply to dodge more shots. He realized, too late, that his new path led him directly into a tree branch. Crow managed to stop himself from hitting it face-first, but his wing whacked against it, hard. He heard a vicious snap and fell into the tangle of bushes near the roots of the tree.
Crow staggered to his feet and crouched in the bushes, motionless. They'll probably come over here to finish me off. He looked at his wing, which sagged from his shoulder and burned with agony every time he moved. Broken. To think that it was a tree that finally got me! I always thought it would be a car. He gazed out of the tangled thicket for signs of movement, but didn't see any. Not yet, anyway. He shifted, hissing and clenching his teeth as his broken bones rearranged themselves, possibly even worsening the break. He looked away from his arm and felt around for anything to use as a weapon. He grabbed a gun, grimacing as his hand brushed against the stiff fingers that had held it. Crow then waited, watching, for the first of the Pure to venture into the open.
Indigo startled as someone slumped in front of her. He looked drawn, pale, almost translucent. She turned the boy over. I told them, they should probably eat before this all started but did they listen? No.
Wait, was that the teleporting boy?
“We’ve got a fader,” she muttered. There wasn’t much you could do with their current medical supplies but feed him up and nurse him back to health. It’s not the worst I’ve seen. Some of them look like skeletons.
“Does anyone here know how to use a camp stove?”
Out of the people who had shown up out of the smoke, she selected a fairly-intact human woman.
Grace was slowly sidling away, trying to get away unnoticed by Alice. When she saw Indigo lay her brother down, she approached her. Looking him over, she fidgeted with her sleeve nervously. "He's only been like that once before.." she murmured, "he tried to teleport too far, but it didn't really work out. Mom and dad had to take him to a special inhuman hospital place. I dunno, we were only ten. I think it's one of the reasons he doesn't push himself teleporting as much as he could.." she mused. "Until today, that is."

Indigo looked gravely at the boy’s unmoving body. Body. We mustn’t use that word yet.
“Chicken and dumplings,” she commanded. A large woman handed her a bag of reconstituted Mountain House chicken and dumplings.
She handed the warm bag to Grace. “Could you give this to your brother?” she asked. “I mean force-feed,” she explained. “He really needs food and fluids right now, and we didn’t have the medical supplies prepared for a Teleporter, I’m afraid.”

Alice rounded the back of the van slowly, being aware you're in a dream is always weird, she knew this was supposed to be a bad dream, but she didn't have to let it upset her. She postponed getting to her aunt to brace herself for whatever monster her brain could have conjured up. It's only a bad dream if I let it be.

River raised her eyebrows at Jessi, giving a slight smirk a greeting. "We're heading over to the van. You two good? I don't really... Speak wyvern." She said, glancing at Toby.

Lachlan rolled his eyes at Wolfram. "Oh yes, you are perfectly fine, just a couple impalements. Ya'know, nothing serious." He glanced at Toby, River, and Jessi, before jerking his head towards the van, signalling he wanted them to get moving.

Camilla shuffled after her, rounding the van and stopping a few feet from Alice. "You okay?" She asked, subdued by the predicaments and worried for her sister.

Jessi sighed. She considered starting a petition to make wyvern a mandatory language to learn. ‘Translate.’ Jessi said, poking Toby with her claw.
“Only if you say please.” Toby replied. He rolled his eyes as she growled something at him. “I’m just- I’m just going to pretend I didn’t hear that,” Toby said, and then looked at River. “Jessi was getting worried. She wants you guys to get back to the cars so we can leave, but I see that’s what you’re already doing. Alice is awake and can probably heal you.”
Jessi nudged Toby again. ‘Ask then if they’ve seen Bleddyn.’
Will you stop poking me?!” Toby said, shooting Jessi a frustrated look. “Uhh... I don’t know what that last word is,” he looked up at River. “Have you guys seen... er... blood?” Toby glanced at Jessi. “Jess, if you can’t- can’t see blood than you’re more blind than I am.” He said quietly.

Alice looked up at her sister and smiled, "Of course." She said cheerfully. She turned back to what she was supposed to be doing, and looked Ash over. At least she wasn't oozing glowing green goop with black eyes, like she thought she would be.

Alice gently brushed loose strands of hair from Ash's face tilting her head to the side to get a closer look at the bruises on her face.

"What kind of trouble did Bleddyn get herself in to this time?"
