Hi, İ am Dave, AKA albaman. İ kept chickens for their eggs for many years when İ lived in Shetland İsles. They were mostly Black Rocks & were prolific layers. İ started with four hens and eventually had 24 so lots of eggs for us and others.
We moved to Turkey almost ten years ago when İ retired & İ have recently been raising chickens for meat, something new to me.
My first batch of six chicks have all grown well in my home made brooder on the balcony then in my home made arc in the garden.
İ got another batch of six chicks nine days ago. Unfortunately one of them did not grow & became ill. After separating it & seeing it deteriorate İ had to kill it today. That is how İ discovered this group. İ searched for best humane way to do the deed and followed some advice on here to use ether (brake cleaner) on tissues in a plastic jar with a lid. İt was quick & don't think the poor wee chick suffered. Never a pleasant experience but better than letting it suffer.
