āž” Quail Hatch Along🄚

I would love to turn the alarm off, but it can't be turned off. It even says so in the user manual. I thought the humidity seemed too high. Maybe I could find and cut the wire or put the incubator out in the garage where I can't hear it.

Mine was the same way. Was supposed to be adjustable but that part broke and it would beep if it went below 45%. Pretty sure I drowned some chicks in sheer desperation to sleep through a night.

I murdered it with a screwdriver.

I'll buy a new fish tank thermometer, and may steal the one out of my fish tank for good measure as well. I have a stick on fish tank thermometer for my brooder, since I assumed (not wrong, I hope!) that a degree or so of difference wouldn't be as critical.

A teenth of a degree, not much difference, a whole degree, maybe some difference in hatch rates and timing.

Next half off day at the thrift store I'm gonna buy 2 huge ice chests and Frankenstein them into incubators or farmers market transports for when I get this joint up and running.
Might I recommend the dorm frig conversions? Can pick up a broken frig in several select dump sites for little to nothing.

The farmer we buy from has a truck with chest freezers in the back. Cute setup.

Second egg in a week like this.

After I got it wet:

Okay, I have a couple questions about incubating.

Temperature: My incubator seems to run about .5-1 degrees cool. It says 100, and according to the thermometer I put inside, the temperature inside is 99-99.5 degrees. If I bump it up to 101, it gets about 99.7-100.5. Which is better?

Humidity: There's a super annoying alarm that goes off if the humidity drops to 40%, but if I add a pipette of water, it goes up to about 50% for about an hour, then drops again. If I add more, the humidity goes as high as 70%, gradually dropping. For example, I added 4 pipettes full last night before I went to bed, and it was at 42% when I got up this morning. Is that okay?
you should be able to change the alarm on humidity in your menu and as @Texas Kiki said, you may want to run humidity lower before lockdown. my in-house incubators run at approximately 30% prior to lockdown. my new one out in shed is running 40-45 (closer to outdoor humidity) with all the rain we’ve had but i left it higher as it has eggs I took from broody chickens and they are due for lockdown tomorrow.

had to cull my pharaoh baby today due to splay leg, and lost one in the ā€œovercrowdedā€ brooder cage. hubby said he would get to work building better brooders ASAP but only another week or so and I should be able to start introducing the larger ones to the aviary (if the flooding ever stops!). i took lots of pics tonight of some of my different colors and some of my ā€œcraziest mutant birdsā€ will start uploading soon!
