➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

Pets until they're dinner. That's a very old school mentality that I admire very much. :thumbsup Its how its been done since the beginning of time.
Thanks. Some days I start wondering if I'm just too callous. I treat them well, and I spend every scrap of my free time on them; still, the outrage I see sometimes just because I don't go through emotional torment over ending a life is quite strong now and then. It ends up being easier to just "play sad".

See, if I have them, I don’t think I would allow them to become so friendly and pet like because then I don’t think I’d be able to do it haha I know it has to be done but I think if I got too attached then I’d feel bad.
The way I see it... there's no reason for me personally to feel bad. I mean, the bird's the one that gets the short end of the stick! I'm the one getting dinner. Once I made the decision that this was how I was going to run my flock, there wasn't anything left in my mind to debate. I give them the best lives I can possibly provide, and I kill them quicker and cleaner than any other way they could possibly go. Predators? Horrible. Old age? Maybe even worse. I rarely see old birds with peace in their demeanour. They're just tired. When you open them up after they die, their insides look sickly. They can't possibly have lived without pain for those last few years.

Does the door creak too? Just for ambiance?
I mean, what door doesn't?

PICTURES!! Gotta get PICTURES!!!
No...

Nahhhh, we need VIDEO of that!! :lau
...and NO WAY.

I have carpel tunnel in both wrists. My hands are too weak to hold them.

On a more upbeat note, I finished framing the quail run. I just need to install smaller grid wire around the edges and build a nighttime residence in the middle. I'm also debating running the Buffs in there, since bantams and quail get along well.

Some pictures. I took videos too but they’re waaaaayyyyyy too long and you can kind of see everything here anyway plus I don’t want to clog up the thread so I just won’t bother uploading them to YT lol unless anyone wants me to lol they show the rest of the garden. But I had to take 4 or 5 takes to get it short enough. :lau cause... well..... :lau

Note the times :lau the shortest one I could do was still over 2 minutes. :lau I talk too much. :lau

What kind of peppers?
I don't want to butcher the extra quail, but no matter how hard I searched, I can't find anyone to pay to do it for me. At that point, I resigned myself to the fact that I'm going to have to do it myself.

I still haven't processed any quail, but I have culled two chicks. I didn't enjoy it at all, but I did it. :sick

@Texas Kiki - shame on you! Making someone do something that you won't do yourself! :p j/k If I had someone I could foist the task off onto, I probably would. Then again, maybe not, because I'd feel guilty.
If ever I'm in your neck of the woods and you need back up for roo reduction I'll help!

Liar.

Hmmm those are all excellent points but I don’t know.... I just think if I made them pets and let them sit in my lap and got all attached and stuff then it would be way harder for me. I think it’d be a lot easier for me to just distance myself and not make pets of them. Not mistreat them or anything, I would still take proper care of them and everything and give them a good life, but I just don’t think I could make pets of an animal I intended to kill. Maybe some people can but I don’t think I could. That’s what the laying flock is for. :lau I make pets of them, name them all, talk to them all, and they’ll all stay until the end of their lives, but I don’t think I could make pets of my food. Prefer to distance myself from those ones. Idk. Just me. If I knew how sweet and kind and nice they were, then I couldn’t take their lives. I’d probably feel guilty or like they deserved to live or something. Or like I was killing my dog haha idk maybe that’s too far. But I just mean if I let myself get attached like that I never could I don’t think. And btw, I’m not saying it’s bad that you do any of that, I genuinely think it’s great that you can do that, and I actually wish I could hug them and spoil them and give them affection like that, and make them really super happy, but I just don’t think I could. At least for me personally. Maybe that is wrong or weak or something but idk. I cried when I my rabbit died due to my own stupid mistakes and when my favorite hen got killed by a hawk so I think if I purposely killed a pet I would never get over it. Heck, I’ve cried when FISH have died.:oops:
