➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

I spy a hunched/weird neck issue.
It is one that I helped out @KDOGG331 :(

I don't know if y'all can tell in these photos but this one is walking around like and old grandpa...hunched over kinda.

I've name him Pawpaw.

I don't know if there is anything I can do. Ideas?

At 8 weeks, I'm not seeing much difference between the original quail and the Jumbos. The Jumbos look larger, but that may be a self fulfilling prophecy. Or the originals were jumbo sized. I don't have a point of reference. What should I be looking for? I know, 12 oz live weight versus 16 oz live weight ain't much. Maybe I was expecting more with an inviting name like jumbo quail? Like jumbo shrimp? Or a miniature elephant? ("I am not a shrimp, I am a King Prawn!" :lau)

The 6 month olds have fat on them. Feeding Purina Game Bird 30% protein.
The 11 week old Jumbos were on the smaller end and about the same size as the originals. Made the 1.5 lb cockerels look larger than they were. (The chickens didn't crow this morning. :) The aggressive male quail was yelling his fool head off. He's in solitary since the other males didn't like getting mated. :hmm If I don't see mating from the selected male for the breeder pen, he may get called back. We wait a week.)

Final surviving count to butcher for the jumbos: 11 female and 9 male. I'll have to check my records for the lost ones.

Tried to separate the largest females with the largest male. Touchy feely. Now to wait for eggs. 3 roosters left to butcher. And 3 cockerels.

I have one with a crooked neck thing. It is three weeks old now and still doing fine. Took me forever to decide if it was a real thing or not. Kind of just looks like he is always keeping an eye on you with his head cocked at an angle. I think it is real though.

Is it hunched over like mine?

They are so stinking cute. And don’t hide!! I LOVE seeing their pics and plus it’s your thread so you can post whatever you want LOL

Thats why its so hard and controversial to help them hatch. Sometimes theyre fine, sometimes they dont make it. I had to cull one this time too.

That makes sense! I’m not sure I’m ready for that haha

Im glad for the one more i think theyre adorable little fluffs :love

Mine got their wings and look funny now i need to set some more so i can look at more lil fluffs in another 2 n a half wks :lau

X2!

And aw do it!!

Awww nooo! I’m sorry! Hopefully he’s okay!

Very interesting! Thanks for the info.

Probably not the same thing but one of my first chicken chicks had wry neck (diagnosed later, I didn’t know what it was at the time) and it’s head was way back almost on its back, like it was looking back, and it kept falling at first too but I gave it some Nutridrench and it was fine! Can’t even tell it from the others now. Or actually, I might not have given it anything, not really sure. I was new to chickens  and I can’t remember exactly. but what I do remember is within a few days it straightened itself out and she was totally fine.

Is it hunched over like mine?

I hope yours is okay.

So sorry. :hugs

X2
