➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

I have never really had a big problem with fighting among babies raised together.....it’s mainly been older ones picking on the younger ones at release. as much as you interact with your quail, I think you will have a pretty good idea and possibly consider separating out the suspicious males into a bachelor cage until you can verify and figure out which ones to keep?? I’ve been correct most of the time based on size, behavior etc even earlier than crowing or vent sexing age. Mr Squeakers (a male grau fee) has never really crowed to my knowledge but has been very vocal whenever we get near him since very early on.....I finally verified by vent-sexing last week. I’m pretty sure your one baby that is very vocal and stands up straight is a male

I'm spotting some fake runner duck standers now.
I guess I need to stop bsing and try to zip tie their legs.
I'll pick some different colored ones up tomorrow.

:lau probably!

Maybe everyone should post a count. :D

Everyone’s probably a quail hoarder by now :lau
I have 8. I don't think that counts as hoarding, especially since I have 32 square feet for them with another 24 square feet in the works. Let's see, that's 56 square feet, with the plan of keeping a permanent covey of 8-10 birds. Sounds reasonable. ;)

I do have a batch of eggs shipping soon, though.

Awesome!! What colors!?

You would end up a real hoarder with 20 cages.
From just one batch of set eggs.

they scheduled our city inspection for 10:30 am this friday....i’m trying to work on everything a little every afternoon to get it all ready! today was sewing holes in the netting, tomorrow my plan is to clean the “empty” coops. any recommendations on bedding to put in the rabbit boxes?? I’m not sure whether to go with shavings, pellet bedding, straw or use hay (edible bedding) thursday i’m cleaning/sanitizing waterers and mowing/cleaning lawn. will put finishing touches on everything early friday am! DH is planning to handle the inspection as he’s afraid that i will be too emotional/argumentative. I did however make it very clear that he needs to address “bio security” (I prefer that they conduct inspection from the viewing area on the deck.....but the only access to the bunny area is through the aviary). we are not removing any additional birds pending the outcome of the inspection.

Yes very Exciting I know you said the 17th and 18th to candle for fertility but i just couldn't help myself so i candled tonight i now have 73ish eggs left i can't say that i got a very accurate count but thats pretty close to the correct count. there were a couple of eggs that were suspect they just had a couple of blood lines like blood vessels but they weren't very defined but i kept them in the bator just in case.
