➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

@Nabiki was it mirin I needed? Or something else? Can’t remember if that was the one I needed or the one I could substitute with haha turns out our grocery store has that and just about every other sauce you could imagine and quite a big Asian section haha
I seem to remember you needed mirin. Teriyaki sauce is equal parts sake, shoyu, mirin, and sugar. If you don't have mirin, you can add a bit extra sake and sugar and it's close.

i explain pansy as a “calico” quail.....they typically are multi-colored but vary with what I call pearl as more white base, golden with more gold or italian base, chocolate base is traditional color, and I have one outside that’s more red base. I’m not sure how “professional or scientific” my terminology is in differentiating the different variation would be considered but it seems to make sense to me and @Texas Kiki at least!!:D

This is so helpful!! Thank you!!

Do my favorite dude is probably not a pearl one but a golden one, right?View attachment 1911022

Looks gold to me but idk.

the assortment included every possible color and egg offered. The only possible ones that I don’t think you received were the celadon. I haven’t noticed a grau fee but they are more difficult for me to spot as chicks. the light and grayish ones you posted pics of are variations of SSC (silver schofield collection) with at least 1 that will be a snowy.

Awesome!!!

It's crazy how many different ones there are.

Right!?

I would probably consider him more golden now, but it was harder to tell exactly when he was little so the pearl stuck!

Either way he’s cool lol

I've been home all day, because of the nasty weather, doing nothing but staring at these things trying to figure them out.
I had to stop myself because I felt like I was turning into a nutter.

:lau

I think you already passed the point of no return.

. I think the cat got my tongue.

:lau :gig :lau

so when i said harlequin i was on the right track

So pretty!!

Did you bleach this cutie?

Are there really rabbits like this?

Oh my it's cute.

:lau I don’t think you can bleach rabbits LOL

But yes so adorable!! :love

yes there are rabbits like this but this is not mine i got it off of google

Ah I see. So cool though.

Here I go again.

This one is going to be a brown Pansy.View attachment 1911031 View attachment 1911032

:lau you’ve turned into a quail addict.

the dark ones will most likely be rosetta or maybe sparkly?? it has taken me a while to figure those out....my first rosetta i called my “laced betties” as that color is similar to a tibetan color with lacing. sparkly is typically larger and darker with more wild type pattern because it is pansy crossed with jumbo (again could be difficult to fully differentiate from a variation of pansy unless in an isolated hatch)

thanks for all the info.

so Pansy is kind of like barring?

Seems like it.

I think this is a brilliant way to describe it :bow

Dont worry i went thru all this-- the real fun part is yet to come, choosing which males dont go to the freezer :hit

X2

And aww no! That sounds like no fun at all :hit

at least that is what i am seeing here

Me too

I like to off the wrong male too quickly.
I'm not making that mistake again.

i do believe that mirin was on the list!

Thanks!! I think so too. I’ll go get some tomorrow maybe or maybe next week haha

Thanks!! This is really helpful!! Maybe it was sake I needed? Didn’t see sake there I don’t think but the mirin I think said sake on it or something? I’ll have to go back and look haha

Still haven’t made the stir fry yet but maybe next week

Why not this week?

It was great meeting @el dorado quail today. I learned a lot at the seminar.

I just fired up the incubator. I have a batch of eggs arriving on Friday. I think I'm going to sneak a few of the eggs from my covey to see what hatches.
:wee

I can label the eggs, but how will I keep track of which chicks hatch from which eggs?!
:barnie
