They are just cute house pets.@muddy75 what's the advantage of raising buttons? I've read they lay less eggs and are smaller in size than Coturnix. Is that true?
This dark one is what I've been calling a Rosetta.@Texas Kiki isn't the dark a Tibetan/Rosetta?
I take that back I did get a picture of the other dark one.@Texas Kiki isn't the dark a Tibetan/Rosetta?
Intriguing comment. One I've considered too. Other breeders will give different gene pool and hopefully strengthen the lines. Or cull the first and try the second without crossing. I'm learning here. Quail generations are much shorter than chicken generations. Good practice & diversion?I think I have probably sold/given away/eaten/retired without breeding closer to 70-80% even. I bought birds/eggs from like 6 sources total, bred them all, evaluated offspring, retired a bunch, and am down to probably 4 birds, their offspring, and some new acquisitions (who will probably get pared down to 1-3 again) in my breeding pens. It is not an efficient process but the results are very satisfying!
the buttons were just an addition to my “addiction” they are just my “housepets” i hatched a batch early this year that left me with a single male.....this batch was intended to give him a mate for when I had to bring him inside for winter. Unfortunately, he was killed by a predator a couple days before these hatched@muddy75 what's the advantage of raising buttons? I've read they lay less eggs and are smaller in size than Coturnix.
