@Nabiki , I think you definitely got at least 2 pearl-fee. Fingers crossed for your that they're girls.

Look at this dude! He was a wild, marbled-looking chick and then he went boring normal grey grau-fee for TEN MONTHS while I debated eating him until a week or so ago he popped all these red feathers again. Now I'm running around deciding on a girlfriend for him. I think it will be his same-colored (without the marbling) hatch-mate (he's also kind of a little guy and she's nice and beefy), but I've got to step on it cuz they're both getting up there now.

I can't find his good chick pic that showed off his mottling.

Teenager (right before he lost the last of his his red marbling). Also before he got his pecked eyelid which left him permanently worried looking.

Spent part of the afternoon starting to get the quail organized for winter. Downsized to 11 layers and one male. The other 17 are in the fridge. A variety of young roos, excess youngish hens and the four hens I originally started with over a year ago. I also traded in the jumbo roo I hatched early in the season for one of his offspring that I hatched later in the season. I based to roo trade off on Zack’s idea that males should be replaced every six months.

yes all 80 are quail.....i had actually collected almost 90 so i didn’t have room to set all of them.....will update on fertility rate in about 5 days!

I have never heard this before.

It's the female sound after she lays an egg. Check for eggs and if none, she WILL start soon.

I just burrito mine every time I have to hold them for more than a second now. The ONE time one wriggled away and I accidentally grabbed him by the leg and it went POP (I thought I'd broken it and would have to put him down but he was fine the next day) traumatized me.

Plus it does make them look cute and indignant.
