Quail getting into position to break out of the egg
My big dark boy did not kill my 3 homegrown hens.

Happy campers this morning.

There was even an egg laid over night.

Guess who is putting it in the bator?

Just kidding. I'll wait until after Halloween to set everything that is laid in that cage.

It will take at least a couple of days before you can expect fertile eggs from them.

I was guessing a couple of weeks.
You may be right. The couple of days thing is because even if he started breeding the moment that he was put in the cage, he can't fertilize the eggs that are already past a certain point in the process. Eggs that are already in the shell gland definitely cannot be fertilized at that point.

:thumbsup
I was totally kidding about there even being a chance last night's egg was fertile.

@007Sean "Yep and the others mentioned too!"

***Okay, so will I be able to keep all of my Bobs together (12), or will they need to be separated out into smaller groups? They're in a 2'X6' raised pen right now. There's never been any fighting so far, they're almost 6 weeks old.

How many of the 12 are males?

I'm unsure since they've not feathered out fully on their heads with their 'adult' feathers yet. A couple of them look like their face feathers are darker like boys though.
