➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

Today makes 8 weeks for my assortment batch.
I think it's time to butcher some but I've put it off because my boy cage is behaving still.
There are ten in there and I still am not sure about a few of them... If they are really boys or not.

I read something recently that said quail are full grown by 9 weeks and best butcher time is like 11 to 12 weeks? And I thought that was odd cause I know you guys have always said they’re full grown by like 6-8 weeks and off them at 8??

I actually read somewhere on here that 6-8 weeks is the most cost effective age but you can butcher at 12 weeks and get more meat it’s just not as cost effective because of feed conversion https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/what-weight-to-butcher-quail-at.850327/ this is the link to that post

Thanks! That makes sense! Seems a lot of people on there do wait though? Idk if I’d wait till quite 12 weeks but maybe at least 9-10? Like just a teeny bit longer? Maybe I will have to try different weights. I can’t imagine quail eat very much? Not like raising a bunch of meat chickens or something. And I also don’t know if I should raise for meat or eggs or both haha cause I assume it’s not really possible to work on bird size and egg size at the same time? Or maybe I don’t work on anything and just have a bunch of layers and pets haha

my butcher plans for the day have been thwarted.....our “annual” plumbing issue has reared it’s ugly head so we get to spend the afternoon trying to figure that out! :sick i currently have no kitchen sink, dishwasher or washer! :hit
called the plumber I usually use and he could come out sometime after 5 for $100 service call and $150/hr labor!!:rant:duc
