➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

probably just as @Kiki said from the beginning by naming him johnny 5!!! IME most early hatchers are :he (the exception being human babies as all 3 of mine would never have hatched had I not been induced) :gig

:lau yes!! She jinxed him!! And yes he was definitely very early lol

and :lau OMG!!

What do you think Johnny is a boy?

Yes!! For one he is very loud! I thought he was just lonely. Also when I tap/scratch the food he comes running out. I thought it was just cause he was hungry and he did eat a piece or two the first time but now when he comes running out he seems more interested in my fingers than the food. Doesn’t really peck them but did try like once. Just seems like he’s more protecting the flock than trying to eat. He’s also the only one that comes out. Although a couple times some have started to. He’s also a little bit mean and was pecking the Welsummer near the eyes earlier. But he is also a full day older than the others so maybe that’s part of it. Maybe the others just need more time to get perkier haha he seems to explore more while the others really haven’t yet. He doesn’t much but does a little bit. Maybe the others are too young yet. Really hoping he’s not a boy but really thinking he is. He’s already so feisty

Your what!?

That thing is creepy!! Lol
Yep. That's a pacu. I had her for about 10 years. She was about 12-14" long when she died. I bought 2 dozen feeder goldfish and made the mistake of putting them all in her tank once. They were all gone the next day. After that I kept them in a separate tank and gave her one or two at a time.

My poor hen... The big egg is 19 grams. I think it's the size of a small chicken egg. I'm guessing that since she didn't lay last night that it's a double yolk.

That’s awesome!! And sorry, didn’t mean to call her creepy. I’m sure she was a nice pet!! I’m already attached to all my fish :lau

Ive come to the conclusion that I probably am not going to get eggs this year from my quail so I guess I’m waiting till February
Mine are only 6 weeks and I'm getting eggs now. They didn't start laying though until I let them have a night, they had been some sort of lights 24/7. Now it's off 7pm-3am. They were on Gamebird starter/grower until week 5 then just got changed to Gamebird breeder. I just added oyster shells today, I got a soft shell egg today from my wild-type hen.

This is one of the things I like about my guineas. When mice or voles invade their coop, they feast on mice and voles.
What is a vole? My chickens/guineas will eat moles, frogs, etc. I have a dog that watches for mice & rats & everything else too really. Will guinea hens stop laying when they lose a member of their flock? I haven't gotten anymore Guinea eggs since Buckwheat was killed.
I'm going to move this dummy in with two Pansy females tomorrow just to see what they will produce.View attachment 1970685 View attachment 1970686 View attachment 1970687 View attachment 1970688 View attachment 1970689

Their butts are so little! How on earth can they do that??? Look at the variations of sizes!

It is possible but your guineas were probably just about ready to stop laying anyway. Guineas are seasonal layers that normally don't start laying until the spring following the year they were hatched. It is not uncommon for guineas in more southern locales to start laying during November or December of the year they were hatched. They normally will only lay for a couple of weeks before they stop. They then normally will begin laying again the following spring with the southern ones starting earlier than the northern ones.
