➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

I want to do meat birds but my parents think it’s gross and my mom especially is like “ I could never eat something I raised/hatched, could you!? :th

Which.... I mean..... honestly... no. I don’t think I could. But I want to try eventually!!

But it will have to be just that.. eventually.

And yeah I think once they were dead I’d be okay but idk.

But all mine are pets right now which I know is kind of stupid considering most aren’t laying atm/are old but still.. they help turn the compost and garden and stuff and of course produce fertilizer so they do still help/have a purpose in a way haha

Or maybe that’s just what I tell myself so I don’t have to off them. :lau

 :th

OMG! Glad one stayed hidden! Haha

And yeah, I’m sure eventually I could do meat birds and I actually kind of want to try quail and don’t think quail will be as difficult because so many look the same? And I want to try meat chickens eventually too or turkeys.

But I was actually meaning my current hens but I was not very clear on that in my post.

Should have specified, sorry.

I still think it will be difficult for me to kill anything at first and I don’t even know if I could do it at all... but I’m sure once I did it maybe it would be easier.

But my current birds are all pets and I :hit at the idea of eating any of them.

Which I know is really stupid and I probably should off them especially since some of them eat a ton and aren’t producing atm but
I can't kill one yet.

I turned this dummy around...I have a bad feeling that something isn't right with it. The hole doesn't look right.View attachment 2007139View attachment 2007138
That looks a lot like the one I had a foot come out of. I ended up helping her out of the egg, and she lived a happy, reasonably healthy life with her crooked neck until she got big enough to eat.

I wish I was handy enough to build my own cages. I can build a computer from parts, but hand me a drill or hammer and I just kind of look at them in confusion. :p
My building style is best described as "Works, but looks like a goblin built it."
My helper for larger projects goes on about accounting for the width of a saw blade in cuts... I, however, use measuring tapes like I use spices in my cooking, so all non-essential pieces are only precise to within an inch or two anyway no matter how diligently the saw kerf is taken into account.

They’re only like 7 1/2 weeks old. They’ll be 8 weeks Friday.

I can tell on most of them and I definitely have mostly boys but there’s just some that I’m really not sure on and am holding out hope for. :lau

I need to go look closer and check though. I haven’t done that lately.

I should probably rehome the definite boys but I want to keep one so I want to evaluate them more haha
I think my brahmas are the same age. The white one is a cockerel I can just tell. I actually vent sexed those two.
