Dear quail gods,
Do quail really only live 2 1/2 years?
Do they really drop to a 25%-ish fertility rate after a year?
Is it really bad to sit too close to the t.v.?

Those are both underestimates. I think 3-4 is a more realistic average under good conditions and it can be up to 5, though of course some birds/lines will be more short lived for whatever reason.

I don't know what the actual numbers for the fertility rate are, but that seems low to me too. Still, I would plan to collect eggs primarily between 4 months and 2 years old if possible. I know I had older birds at one point and hatched plenty of healthy chicks from them.

Not touching that last one with a ten foot pole :lau

Not bad at all. You can also stair into the microwave. You should try breathing from the exhaust of your car too. It does wonders for people.
I totally agree!! I start up the SUV in the garage every few weeks, and sit at the tailpipe. Not sure why I keep waking up with a jacket on backwards.

I will officially never listen to BReeder! again. :p
Sorry... I couldn't resist.
Your first two questions were very helpful for me though. I didn't know about the drop off in fertility. I have to rethink how often I'll need to bring in new birds to continue breeding without inbreeding and shrinking my genetic pool. Ugh! This breeding business is a real pain.
