āž” Quail Hatch Along🄚

For my coturnix that was too high. I had much better hatch results keeping the humidity around 30% and raising it to 40-45% during hatch. Now I have to try button eggs at a higher humidity to see what happens.
Everyone has to find what works for them...you can read, follow someone else's recommendations, or loosely go by the general consensus on incubating eggs, and still not have a good results. Everyone's situation is different, just find a method that works for you, then stick with it! :old

Well, I had some excitement last night. I was napping when my old cat (and I mean old, she's 20) started meowing at me, and then she hopped up on the bed.

This is a cat that has never killed something. You could put a mouse right in front of her and the worst she would do is bat at it with her claws sheathed. I trust her to be on the bed with my cockatiels and know she won't go after them.

So she hops onto the bed, comes up to me, and has something in her mouth. And it's a quail chick. So I freak out and take it from her and look it over well. As usual, she didn't hurt it, she just scared the bejeezus out of it. No wounds, she just picked it up and brought it to me.

Best I can figure is it flew out of the brooder (which is now covered) and she saw it and was like, well, that's not supposed to be out here. And she caught it and brought it to me, and did not hurt it.

And it's fine, by the way. Got over its scare and is running around the brooder unharmed and unfazed.

Still, I don't need a repeat, lol. Brooder safely covered, no more escapees.

Wow! Great cat! Not a cat fan--most of them make my air tubes close up. Still... that one sounds like a real keeper!

She's a great cat :) I've had her since I was seven. When I was that age, she tolerated me dressing her up in doll clothes and driving her around in a barbie Jeep, lol.

She chose me - someone dumped her off at the neighbor's horse barn, where I'd go to visit the horse. She would climb up me and ride around on my shoulder, then follow me back down the road when I left. Eventually I just asked my neighbor if I could have her, and here we are 20 years later.

Last night my son and I took my 4 1/2 week old Jumbo whites (8) out to my established Jumbo Wild (8) pen. I ran out this morning to see how they were doing. I expected that there would be pecking and chasing. But there was nothing, they were all hanging out like great friends!? Bad news is that my broody hen was having a good time socializing that she didn't return to her eggs. Oh well, no big deal really.

Going to candle my eggs later, I'm having such a hard time seeing anything. I'm used to duck and chicken eggs.

Last night we FaceTimed my MIL and showed her a duck egg that's internally pipped. We also gave her a tour of the farm because she's in lockdown. She was so happy to see everything. Hoping we can show her quail hatching in a few weeks.

I’ve tasked my two socially isolating kids with monitoring the incubator while I head to my healthcare job again today. They are under strict instructions to look but not touch and to text me if anything actually hatches. I’m hoping it will provide a diversion and give my work from home husband a tiny bit of relief. They’ve been driving him nuts with their antics and fighting.
